Is there any cheap way to get 5.1 from my r3600?

For those of you having problems with HDMI out on your telly, try right clicking the volume icon in the bottom right and select playback devices. Then try enabling and disabling the speakers and headphones output and the HDMI output, just have a general fiddle with it. Once you've done that, make sure HDMI is enabled and then plug the HDMI out and plug it back in again.

Cheers for the advice Kushty, tried all that and guess what... STILL FUCK ALL!

This is starting to really wind me up now.

Nvidia have issues with Philips TV's perhaps?

OMFG! I Do not understand this 1 bit.

Just deleted the Nvidia drivers... all of them. Then clicked the speaker and windows offered to fix it. OK Great, fix it.

It then made a noise... Touch.
Doesnt play Windows sounds, but plays when Music and Videos are playing? Any ideas why? Want it to be Primary I guess, if that makes sense?

What I meant was boot one of the ready tweaked Xbmc live installs from a CDROM or USB stick, xbmcfreak v13 would be a good choice, and it would prove hdmi sound working. Then you would know you weren't chasing a lost cause

Right. Gonna put this to everyone. Windows 7 as a HTPC OS is no good. I have the R3610 Revo - the 4GB version - 3GB Usable!

Thinking everyone's having a much better time using Linux as Windows 7 stutters with MKV files. I'm now about to join y lot with Linux, hopfully it'll make the experience a lot smoother. Media Centre is laggy too!

Gonna be on all your cases now (after reading this thread) to help get me sorted! Thx peeps!

I've described it a few posts up but I installed a minimal ubuntu 9.10 and then ran the auto installer script which does a load of tweaks and installs the right drivers etc (select nvidia 190 NOT 195)

The script sorts everything out and should leave you with a working auto running xbmc install...

there's a whole bunch of threads about hdmi audio and linux over at xbmc.org I'd have a good read over there. Seems like most issues are resolved...

also, what have you installed ? the script ? xbmc freak ? or the normal version (un-tweaked ootb) ?

Have a read of this and see if this helps?

    http://www.revouser.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=157

Forget the full blown linux install for now and make a XBMCLive USB pen or SD card. (borrow one out of a camera maybe if you don't have one?).

If you follow this easy to understand guide you should be able to get films and audio working fairly easy. If this doesn't work then do you have another TV you can try it on just to prove that its the TV and not the Revo?

This thread is getting a bit messy now, I recon that Malty (being an admin and all) should make a sticky with all the helpful bits in?

Talked yourself into a job there :-)

by all means make a thread full of relevant info and I'll stick it. Maybe 2 win/Linux ?

I will contribute largely to the linux one as not done much with revo/win

I've been running win7 happily for ages, but am tempted to move over to linux on it after having some problems recently with loosing my audio after coming out of standby, and stuttering mkv's. Tbh though i'm just gonna use the live usb one as i don't need the drive on the revo for anything as all my media plays over the lan anyway.

If people read back through this thread you will see I posted a step by step guide on how to have full HD videos in windows 7 with NO STUTTERING. My Windows 7 is just as good as my Linux install if you can be bothered to tweak.

For me windows 7 is a must because I have a desktop on a 50'' screen with Chrome as a browser and all the computer capabilities. If you only want a media centre and aren't concerned with a fully functional PC as well then I recommend Linux for ease, also Linux uses less CPU and I assume less memory.

But don't say Windows 7 is no good and it keeps stuttering because you need to enable DXVA playback to offload onto the GPU like VDPAU does for Linux!!

I will volunteer myself for taking peoples guides and bits of info and compiling a neat sticky if people don't mind me using their posts, of course I will be putting names with info so you know who to thank.
