    Rant Dealership Prices!

Right, when I got my car it only came with 1 key, so have been meaning to get a spare for a while. Called up the dealership today and they want £135 + VAT for a fucking key, all programmed & working!!

The programming costs £22 + VAT, which is fair enough, but the key itself costs £113 + VAT!! WTF!

In my old car I snapped the key, but still had the chip for the immobiliser. Dealership said, if I didn't have the chip, it would cost £40 for a new one, and the new key was only £5! So £45 I can deal with, but £158 is rediculous!!

Needless to say, I coughed up and told them to order one, because I need a spare key if something were to happen to mine.

Just don't see how they can justify that sort of price for a key!

When I bought my alfa, that was the first thing I need as I bought it with no keys/docs. About £150 to get key, £10 for codes, then £30 for mobile locksmith. However there was a problem with the ecu so I bought another whole car to transplant the ecu/immobiliser/transponder set. Worked fine, but then I broke the key while trying to open a tin of paint. Got another key at about £180 this time.
Drove the car for a few hundred miles before the engine went. Rebuilt the engine but the ecu lost it's coding so bought another whole car to strip out the ecu set and other parts. Never bothered to drive the car afterwards.

    Costs:

    Key 1: £150
    Codes : £10
    Locksmith: £30
    Spare Parts Car 1: £48
    Key 2: £180
    Spare Parts Car 2: £200.

All in all, thats more than a pound a mile I've paid just for keys, and thats even more than I paid for the whole car!
