    processer?

    im thinking of buliding my first pc, with the processer do i just clip it in the slot on the mother board, or do i need to do soldering cause i am utter bolloxs at soldering!

    also do i need to do soldering with ram,sound card etc etc

    or does it all clip in place?

    all clips in mate, you do need to spread som paste in the back of the chip tho, to seal it to the heatsink

    does the paste come with the cpu or heat sink?

    Comes with the heatsink m8 , dont make it too thick or you will feck up a new 2100 xp like i just have . oops !

    ops, im getting a £300 p4 2.56bghz,

    what would be the best heat sink for that, isnt that the fan which bolts on top of the processer?

    To seal it???? That is not what the paste (god forbid you use paste) is there for. You use Artic Silver (preferably) to provide an effective heat transfer from the CPU to the heatsink.

    But yes it should be thin as in paper thin. Too much and it acts as an insulator.

    if i apply just a small blob of this in the center will that be ok, or does it need to go all around it?

    I'll be honest, nokia, get someone who knows how to build a PC to help you through it, otherwise you'll start blowing very expensive components very quickly.

    The questions you are asking show you've done no research whatever, don't take this as an insult of putdown, but don't even consider building a computer until you do some major research.

    If you must, take some class a local vocational school should be offering, I believe it's A+ certification in the States, just to build some crap computer and fully understand what you are doing.
