Default British designer Alexander McQueen found dead

    Designer Alexander McQueen dies

Alexander McQueen was named British designer of the year four times

The fashion designer Alexander McQueen has been found dead, his company said.
His office confirmed to the BBC that Mr McQueen, 40, was discovered at his London home this morning.
Paramedics called to the Mayfair property pronounced him dead at the scene. Police said his death was not being treated as suspicious.
A statement said his family were "devastated" at the "tragic news", and added that they shared "a sense of shock and grief".
In a message on his Twitter page on 3 February, Mr McQueen said his mother had passed away.
A former British Designer of the Year winner, London-born Mr McQueen started his career as an apprentice in Savile Row, where he learned how to make jackets at Gieves and Hawkes.

    'Shock and grief'
Mr McQueen won the distinction of being named British designer of the year four times between 1996 and 2003 and was also awarded the CBE.

In 1996, the man nicknamed "the hooligan of English fashion", with his close-cropped hair and Doc Martens, was named head designer at the Paris couture house of Givenchy.
Mr McQueen's close friend and fashion icon Isabella Blow, who helped kick-start his career, killed herself in 2007.
A statement released by his office - referring to the designer by his given first name, Lee - read: "On behalf of Lee McQueen's family, Alexander McQueen today announces the tragic news that Lee McQueen, the founder and designer of the Alexander McQueen brand, has been found dead at his home.
"At this stage it is inappropriate to comment on this tragic news beyond saying that we are devastated and are sharing a sense of shock and grief with Lee's family. "Lee's family has asked for privacy in order to come to terms with this terrible news and we hope the media will respect this."

His brilliant imagination knew no bounds
    Alexandra Shulman British Vogue

His death came days before London Fashion Week, and as final preparations were being made for a spring collection to be unveiled in Paris.
On 3 February, he wrote on his Twitter page that his mother had passed away the day before, adding: "RIP mumxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx."
Four days later he wrote that he had had an "awful week" but said "friends have been great", adding: "now i have to some how pull myself together".
Alexandra Shulman, editor of British Vogue, said Mr McQueen had influenced a whole generation of designers.
She added: "His brilliant imagination knew no bounds as he conjured up collection after collection of extraordinary designs.
"His death is the hugest loss to anyone who knew him and for very many who didn't."
A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "We were called by London Ambulance Service at about 10.20am this morning to reports of a man found dead at an address in Green Street, W1.
"He is believed to be 40 years old and from London. Next of kin have been informed, however we await formal identification before releasing the name of the deceased.
"A post mortem examination and inquest will take place in due course. "The death is being treated as non-suspicious."

Fashion is a massive UK industry and provides 1000's of jobs. He inspired many to contribute to the industry in this country and you should show a bit more respect.

I'm sorry but I could never respect a bloke who designs women's clothes.

Men fix cars not ponce around with women's clothes.

I had no idea who he was, I only wear primark fashions anyway. Still, a sad loss.

I guess I'm out with the times, sad loss at that age though. Last 'names' I remember were Paul Smith, Ben Sherman and harry hillfiger.

You'll be in pieces when "George at Asda" dies then!

why? All he did was design clothes. Its fuck all, means absolutely nothing. Every time a businessman in this country dies we don't get all stupidly sentimental, and some of them are responsible for far more jobs and revenue than McQueen. We don't get all soppy when they die do we?

His utter pointlessness came to light to me earlier this morning when I read this:

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/8511404.stm

Basically, he's the twat who is responsible for people walking around with their jeans halfway down their arse. Wow, I'm just gobsmacked at his brilliance. For those who can't be arsed to read that article above, here are some other examples of his brilliance:

    Anyone impressed yet?

I know a fair bit about haute couture because I was very good friends for years with an up and coming designer called Claire Ladhams who sadly took her own life 8 years ago. We were friends since I was 15 and I used to mock her designs and creations at first. She went on to study fashion at Brighton and as the years went by she taught me to appreciate what she did and the fashion industry in general. Also I have always taken an interest in fashion and some pride in what I wear and how I look.

I guess that many people don't realise how much of an influence haute couture has on the diffusion ranges that they buy and wear from high street shops. For fashion shows a designer will use extreme creations to showcase their creativity and skill with textiles. These extreme creations are then diluted down for general consumption which is known as "diffusion range". People may not realise it but the styling and design of everything you wear (the cut of the materials, the colours available etc) is created and decided by a fashion designer.

Also to mock men in the fashion industry is a little daft as they are up there with commerce's biggest earners. Personally I feel that creating and commanding multi-billion dollar empires is something to be admired.

Not a fucking chance many on here even know what the word fashion means as 98% of them will have the wives buy their rags from Primark.

    @BBK

The guy is dead. The fact that you don't get him or his work doesn't change that fact. Catwalk fashion isn't direct high street attire but the creative ideas filter down and allow for lesser designers to take inspiration and produce something mainstream.

Can't you have another hissy fit and GO AWAY from the forums proper.
