Default Which GPS App for Cycling/Running

I've just got a new bike for cycling to work and I want to track my route into work by GPS so I can compare routes and just see how fast I can get to work in.

There are various app's out there for this however I'm struggling to find a decent one. I've tried AllSportGPS which looks good but keeps pausing or stopping which ruins your stats for the day.

Anyone else use their iPhone whilst running/cycling?

I'll try MotionX tonight on the way home.

I'll try a different app each day and see which performs best. Just grabbed runkeeper pro as well so will give that one a whirl.

Chesser i'll update this thread every time I try one with a little review. They need to have a good GPS signal as the phone will go in my rucksack in the back pocket that is closest to the sky. Hope it works like that.

    i use motionx-gps when i need to log a walk/run

i used the cracked version for a couple of days then found that i used it enough to buy it, i just saw that there is a free, lite version that you could try - i dont know what the limitations are in the lite version

I would be interested to know how good this is so if you could let us know that would be ace.

I also read you should download the Ordnance Survey UK maps for full effect.

Also have a look at the video on this page. http://gps.motionx.com/video/ It is the first vid, pause it on 2:02, looks like the woman like to do a bit more with hers......

I used Run Keeper Pro in the end and I can't say how impressive it is. The GPS signal was really good even though it was in my rucksack and it tracked my route home perfectly. You can set it so that it give you an update on your progress every 2 min's etc so I could hear what pace I was doing whilst cycling.

When you've finished your activity it you can upload it to your Run Keeper account and share your activity's on Facebook. This is exactly what I needed as I've got a bet with someone that I can cycle to work in under 10 min's so he'll be able to see my times getting better every morning

I'll stick with this one for now as it does everything I need and it works better than I could have hoped

I may even buy this app

If you want Ordnance Survey mapping so you can plan cross country routes, theres a couple of great apps called Routebuddy and Outdoors. Both allow you to download the OS maps to your phone so you dont have to rely on a phone signal. Routebuddy actually allows you to plot your routes on a Mac too, then upload it to your phone. They arent free but are great bits of kit considering the cost of a genuine GPS device to do the same would set you back £300+.
