    Default Sky + HD Installation

Sky Engineer has installed Sky + with only a single feed into the back of the box due the shared dish on the roof, as such the recoring facilites of the box are pretty much useless, any way without putting up a new dish or modifying the existing one, anything avaliable to split this cable into two feeds?

    Cheers

Your not usually able to get multiple feeds off communal dishes. My mate had exactly the same problem.

Ring them and tell them to discount the HD sub or reduce your monthly cost as you are not getting the full package that you're paying for. If they say 'no', tell them to come and take it away. I'm pretty sure they will reduce your sub.

Dont see how you will get any reduction out of them personally.

You arent paying for anything you arent getting...the recording function is free anyway so they aint gonna refund you for something which you dont pay for anyway.

I split the signal at the wall, using a soldering iron and two cables from wickes, it's worked fine for about 6 months !!

Well hes talking bollocks...you can get all of the HD channels with 1 lead/feed...you just wont have the full recording capability.

    OK....lets start again.

Its normally referred to as feeds...and you have 2 feeds from the dish into the back of the box.

This allows you to watch one channel whilst recording another or record 2 channels whilst watching a prerecorded program from the planner.

In a communal dish situation you may only have one feed therefore only 1 of the tuners is in use, thus you can only record the channel you are watching.

It doesnt affect your ability to watch any HD channels, thats purely down to the box you are using and the Sky sub you have!

Im not sure those will work fully.

On satellite feeds the channels have differing polarities Horizontal and Vertical....I dont see how you could access 2 channels with different polarities on the same split LNB connection.

It may allow you to access different channels with the same polarity though.

I'm not a techie but After I had Sky fitted I bought my own HD box and it came with a free double LNB. Couldn't he buy one of these for the communal dish.
Sorry meant quad lnb with 4 outputs, seen on net for £14.

My Humax HDR only has one connection going to it and I can record one channel and watch another if they are on the same polarities. If I had the two connections on the back used I could, in fact, watch a channel, whilst recording two other ones. Not tried this though but it's well documented.

As stated above you can use Sky+ and Sky+HD with a single feed but will loose the ability to record one channel and watch another.
