Different laser alignment for different games, why?

y do i have to adjust the cog and the little screw on the laser eye for different games??

if i play Street Hoops the laser alignment will be in a different postion if i played PES2

im i doing something wrong, im tired of keep opening the drive to adjust it.

with the laser being so sensitive, any minor difference in the geometry of the data tracks can cause problems esp. with backups (legal!)
