Help!!! with Nero/CD RW

I recently bought a lovely new cdrw for my p.c. !!! i installed it myself as it seemed pretty easy and it came with some simple looking instructions.
I made the drive a slave as i already had a dvd and that was the master. Anyway switched it all on and the drive worked fine, reads fine etc. Then installed nero and tryed to burn a copy of a cd., followed the easy wizard thing and all seemed to be ok... analayed the disk ok, read the disk ok and then when it came to burn the system freezes!!. i have tried changing the burn speed but nothing seems to work. So then i thought it must be the media that i'm using so i tried to burn something from the HD to the cd and it worked no problem. So that basically means that it burns ok!! So now i'm stuck I've got a PIII 500mhz with 192mb memeory and plenty of room on my HD

Anyone got any ideas ??

you tried to burn from your DVD drive to the CD Writer? this is NOT recommended if you are copying on the fly (have both reader and writer on same cable). Is this what you tried to do?

No ....... i did try that as one of the ways to do a copy but that didnt work either. I simply tried to do a burn from the cd/r only the other drive was not involved.
