'Traumatised' witness of fit awarded £6,000
    By A Scotland Correspondent

AN EPILEPSY sufferer will have to pay compensation to a student who claimed that she was upset by his contorted face during a seizure.
Sheriff Michael Fletcher, at Perth, ruled that Edwin Young, from Balbeggie, must pay £6,000 to Yvonne Rennie for the consequences of a car crash in 1998. She was mildly injured when he had an epileptic fit at the wheel and twice hit her vehicle. She said she suffered post traumatic stress from seeing his seizure.

A spokesman for Epilepsy Association Scotland said that it was extraordinary. “It’s almost like something you would expect to see on the Ally McBeal show.”

Despite ruling in her favour, Mr Fletcher suggested Mrs Rennie may have exaggerated.

You can see the fairness if the student just wanted her car sortin and a bit of money for the inconvenience, after all if u frequently have epileptic fits then its ur own risk drivin.

Suing for trauma takes the pi$$ though, i have seen a couple of epileptic fits before (once wen i was 8 for gods sake) an it neva affected me a bit.

Some ppl will do nething to get money these days, weres it gonna stop,

one of my kids m8's is real feckin ugly, i'm thinking about i should sue his parents for the trauma seeing their son has caused me

@bez it wont stop, it'll just get worse because lawyers get paid for taking these stupid cases to court, make them work pro bono (for free) on these cases and i bet they'd stop pretty quickly, maybe even let the judge decide if its a worthless case at the end of the trial so the lawer only find out if he gets paid AFTER the trial I bet that would stop them too.

yea but with these no win no fee companies wudnt they only find out if they are gonna win an get paid after the trial neways? Also if u did sue ur kids m8's parents cudnt they do the same to u? after all u cant really put a judge on how ugly or nice sum1 is. either way im sure the lawyers wud be keen to take this case on,

you must of seen the claims direct advert where the woman says she woke up and realised i had been involved in an accident and i keep getting flashbacks so i recieved blah blah thousand pound

in other words she got paid for remembering the accident
so in that case ANY body who is involved in an accident and remembers it regardless of injury should get paid

i'l tell you what if i ever have an accident i want that lawyer who dealt with her

I seen the same thing when I was about 17, I'll not soon forget it, but........ even if it had happened in this age of 'no win, no cost' solicitors, sueing ANYONE, let alone the person that suffered it, would be the LAST thing on my mind.

i've only seen him a few times (usualy from a distance) although he has been here i think it would look mighty strange me asking him if i could take a photo, best bet is think of the ugliest person you have seen then imagine what they would look like if someone set their face on fire and put it out using the bottom of a frying pan

My dad's an epileptic and I must say I'm totally gobsmacked by this ruling. I had to grow up seeing my dad suffer from fits and I admit it was distressing, especially when he suffered head injuries as a result. But that was nothing compared to how he felt when he became concious again, aching all over for days and not remembering what happened for up to a week beforehand, as well as dealing with various injuries. The world is indeed going mad, it's totally ridiculous
