Wireless

Hi

I have finaly got on to Broadband with Tiscali for �19.99 a month and now I have about 30ft of cable running from the telephone router downstairs up to my computer upstairs, my question is is there a wireless product that I can buy to send the connection from the phone box to the modem or pc and get rid of all these wires...
Thanks for any help as I am new to this......

You will need a wireless ADSL router and a wireless network card for your PC.

A wireless ADSL router will set you back around �60 and a wireless network card will set you back about �35.

also read the spec's carefully cos some advertise as "Wireless ADSL Routers" but don't actually have a built in ADSL modem.

errr, forget that, I just read your post properly. :whistle

i should have said be careful cos some include ADSL modems - which you don't need.

It is cheaper to buy a wireless "Integrated" ADSL router rather than just a router that will accept a USB ADSL modem.

The Netgear jobby featured in the link posted by WTD will do you fine mate (have a look around though in case you find it any cheaper)

Or if you already have some networking gear you could buy a seperate router and wireless access point like i did.

oh before i forget, dont believe all the hype about how far you can connect on wireless. When real walls are taken into account the distance is somewhat restricted, also bear in mind interference from other things on the 2.4ghz band.

Any object that is in the way will have an effect on the signal to one degree or another.
The distances claimed by the manufacturer are for "line of sight" only.
