Apex DVD player £69.99
Just been into Asda (Oadby, Leicester) and bought the gf one of these. Looks like it is a nationwide thing by the number of these they had. Anyway, it does MP3, displays JPEGs and of course DVD's (region 2 only), no vcd's though

Life is like a pubic hair on a toilet seat, sooner or later you get pissed off.
Had mine 2 weeks or so. Firmware's a doddle to upgrade and makes it region free, vcr friendly (you can tape dvd's to vhs video) vcd compatible and also plays RCE discs.
Get the odd dodgy film that stutters every now and then but for the money its a bargain.

hmm don't like the look of the player tho, suppose it would be ok under my xboxthanx i'll recomend it to people and just hot the upgrade on
Just got my upgrade disc today. Tried a dvd film and still says 'wrong region'. Anyone else had this after upgrading or are there more than 1 upgrade disc from Asda?

i don't think the Asda firmware gets rid of macro or makes it region free, m8

their firmware works a treat: region free, VCD 1 and 2 complaint, SVCD (apparently) and region and macro free.
the player is a little picky about VCD (as long as they are perfectly WhiteBook complaint they seem to be fine) and apparently don't like DVDrs produced on standalone DVDr recorders.
But other than that seems a good enough DVD player - and is the cheapest one about.
