no, you can do long exposure on most cameras, my old one does 30 seconds.

Yeah I was a bit disappointed after last months great theme that we've gone a bit more technical but maybe that's fair enough as long as we have a more fun theme next month too, for us less technical types?

Also I suppose if we use our imaginations there's more than 1 intepretation of it? & it's good to make us stretch ouselves a bit technically, I don't mind asking for tips off those our are more experienced, so c'mon guys lets get snapping (slooooowly).

Long exposure is up for interpretation guys. A long exposure is really anything that you consider long.

Ok I've changed the theme to now read, "Night Time/Long Exposure".

Hopefully that'll attract a few more people

I've never done a long exposure, so I'm looking forward to seeing what I can come up with. Should be an interesting month.....

A night shot, i suppose can be done with any camera but long exposures may be restricted, sorry.

Am i right in reading this as:
it can be a night time shot
    or
    a long exposure shot
    or
    a bit of both?

As I can see a lot of scope for everyone if this is the case!

Example: The IXUS v3’s long shutter speeds enable you to manually select a shutter speed of between 1 and 15 seconds.
ample enough for a long exposure shot. I'm sure most decent compacts have a manual setting for adjusting shutter speeds..

There are many compacts that have long exposure possibilities - even if it is limited to say 3 seconds (Fuji Z35 for instance) - the Canon Ixus 95 has 15 seconds, the Lumix LS85 has 8 seconds, the budget Olympus FE-5020 does 4 seconds.

Just quick examples, and means that even compacts are capable of long exposure times.

Remember, it doesn't mean 30 seconds, or a minute, or 5 minutes for star trails. An exposure of 1/5 of a second is enough to blur the legs of people walking in the street.
