    format C:
and you should always fdisk the drive if that the only partition.
    repeat process for drive D

"and also to partition to a C:\ and D:\?"

Do you mean how to create 2 partitions on one HD (that is how I read it). If that's what you meant, it can be done many ways. Grab Partition Magic - it's easy.

dont forget to format from a boot disk, if you are using win xp (maybe w2k too) you could enter the partitions size easier than fdisk if you are a newbie.

I know this is an old topic, but I have a response. I partition my drives for a pretty simple reason. If my OS takes a dump and I need to reformat (like I did a week or so ago for the first time in 8 months) I don't lose all my shit. I can just format the c drive, while leaving the stuff (movies/mp3s/etc.) on the d drive alone. I know most people do this by having a second hard drive, which is the way I have it in two of my computers, but my third I only have the one hard drive and partitioning is the only way. I know it's a n00b approach to computing, but I've been doing it for years and it never fails. I absolutely hate CD-RW's. I don't like backing my shit up there. So I have a 40GB "backup" partition. Now if my hard drive takes a crap then I guess I'm out of luck, but what are the chances of that? **Knocks on Wood**
