I reckon both companies are full of it, Ive had similar tools for years and it's the first thing I reach for when I'm trying to remove a worn nut or bolt. I rarely have to use anything else and when I do I know it's going to be a nightmare cos that TYPE of tool is pretty damn good and if IT can't get the nut or bolt off, not much else will. Like any other tool there are good and bad quality ones so it might be a good idea to wait and look around for more.

Does it work like a basin wrench?

Not sure what a basin wrench is but the tools I have are all not unlike a pipe wrench without the knurled adjuster for jaw size. Instead they are sprung shut and have to be held open to the size you need. The spring mechanism isn't what does the gripping though, it's just a tensioner to hold the jaws against the nut\bolt\stud your removing, it's the shape of the jaws and the teeth that do the work.

Yes that sounds like a basin wrench. The jaws are quite free to open, the way they work is the harder you turn the tighter the jaws close. A basin wrench has a long handle so that you can get up to the underneath of a tap. They're used by plumbers. Sometimes fiddly as fook though. And a chisel soon suffices

Ah right, I know the one you mean now, the jawa are at right angles to the handle on them though, and it doesn't have the spring to keep it closed, well.....the one I have anyway. I kinda wondered what those were called and don't know any plumbers to ask, cheers!
