sp1 blacklisted some keys, most importantly the fck.. one that most people use. also i think they added in some functionality to check your cdkey over windows update in the future so i wouldnt reccomend using any keys you find on the net because they can be blacklisted easily

XP SP1 also added critical updates.
    Ex:

    Fresh install of XP(non SP1)
    windowsupdate.com

you get plenty of critical updates.
    ------------------------------------------
    Fresh install of XP(SP1)
    windowsupdate.com

    you get few critical updates.

    Hope this helps,

As long as you don't use a key that starts with D or F you should be fine. My key starts with M and was able to install SP1 fine. It's not much different. You can search google for a program that searches your computer and develops a key for you that Microsoft will accept based on your hardware. There is also a way to change your current key, which you can find if you search.
