Default All I need now is the best motherboard,

I need your help with which mobo to buy, Im looking for a motherboard that will fit with my new computer,

I will buy the following components:

    Pentium 4 2800
Hercules ATI 9700 (I guess it will be the best 9700-card, right?)

The motherboard Im looking for should have:
    a 478 socket (doh!)
    8x AGP
It should support the new hard-drive standard (is it called serial ATA?)
    DDR 400
    USB 2.0
Bluetooth would be nice but not necessary

    Thank you for your help!

There's some motherboards that have flaws using the 8x AGP port, I forget the exact ones but it should be around somewhere.

the 2.8 is a waste of money, get the 2.53 for MUCH less money and overclock it well over 3 ghz.

also, don't worry about getting Serial ATA because we won't be seeing the drives for it for a while yet (next year) and you will be able to buy a faster serial ATA pci card by then, and the Herc 9700 wont necessarily be the best 9700 card

Phero: only thing bad about that motherboard is that its a SiS 648 chipset. SIS = Crap, i know, because i have the sis 645dx. VIA is way better. plus that is only ddr333, not ddr400 =\

    2. What is wrong with sis?

well 333mhz compair to 400mhz isnt much of a differences, my motherboard can support 400mhz memory, if just turn up the voltage of my ram up. But if you want the latest motherboard with the latest features, go with 400mhz ram.
price wise, go with ddr333, i got my stick of ram for 189 bucks, but you can get generic ram for like 100 bucks.

well the one thing that i found wrong with sis, is that on my motherboard, the lights on my keyboard, and mouse wont turn off after i shut down the computer.
i have a MS explorer mouse, the red light is still on, and the caps lock light on my keyboard is still on.
so i just hooked my mouse up to USB, and kept my keyboard on PS2, and it fixed it.

the SIS AGP 1.10 drivers are crap.
before i had my geforce 4 in, i had those drives installed, so when i pluged in my gf4, it wouldnt bootup, it just frozed at the windows bootup screen.
after a format, and just installing the gf4 drivers, and not the agp drivers, it worked like a charm.
it took me 3 formats, and installtion of windows to figured it out.

same shit happens to my friends with sis chipset motherboard.

    stick with VIA

Yeah my old mobo had a VIA chipset, and I had no problems with it...This one's got a SIS one, and again, I have no "real" problems with it, though I have some overclocking problems, which I didn't have before...Then again, I'm not 100% what the cause for those problems is, so I can't really blame the SIS chipset...

...Oh and, the NV30 0wnz j00 all, 9700 (will) sux0r, bla, bla, bla.

I'd wait for the NV30 (but I bought a GF4 Ti 4200 not long ago), though technically, the 9700 "is" the best card "for games" and for 3D Mark on the market "for now". Your choice...From your list of things to buy, I'd say you could afford either of them.

Maybe its better to wait a month or two for the NV-30 and buy a geforce4 in the meanwhile, maybe some new better mobos will come out on the market!?

with computers the best way to go is to buy the things who gives you the best performance for the least amount of money... i.e NEVER buy the latest/fastest cpu there is.

But judging from what you wanna buy you are either really rich/spoiled or you are a hardcore computer addict who wants the newest fastest stuff all the time

Then about waiting...there will always come out faster stuff if you wait..so you can wait forever if you think that way..ram has gone from 2100(pc266) to pc3200(pc400) just over this summer.
