Default Adding more RAM to the Xbox

Has anyone done this yet? Is it possible?

Before some smartass asks why, I'll tell you.

    - As many already know, there is a serious bug in Morrowind (IMO, the best game on the Xbox). When your save game reaches around 160 blocks, the game locks up or gives a dirty disc error all the time. Bethesda has no fix for this embarasment, and their only workaround is to not move stuff around in the game (by the time I found out it was already too late).

    - MAME roms over 25 megs (or something like that) won't run.

    - Anyone who want's to install Linux and use the Xbox as a cheap computer would want more RAM.

i think i read somewhere that it was possible..
though you have to use a debug bios in order for ti to work..for the retail version is limited to only see the 64megs in it. there is a fourm on xboxhacker that talks about it. might want to give ti a look. and if you do find anything interesting.. please post back..

There are two more places on the mainboard, but you have to solder them
    on it.So it's a bit risky,but it should work .

From what I've gathered, it's not that simple. I think you need special equipment to mount it, not just a soldering iron. Also, you need a bios to tell it to recognize it. After all that, nobody seems to know if the games will even use more than 64MB, but for Linux and shit it should work.

It is possible. It was discovered that the original developer kit had 128MB RAM, and the extra pads on the Mobo is where it was soldered on. You dont need a special tool , but it is surface mount, and 40+ legs to solder. Even experienced people would take thier time to attempt it.

Biggest problem is the Bios. Noone has had any reason to add in the code to make 128MB work. I would imagine that the BIOS would have to be altered in order to setup the addressing since the original Bios was proprietary.

You will have to ask around on more 'hacker experienced' forums to see if someone has already tweaked a Bios for this project, or maybe ask someone to do it for you. Thats the fun with mod scene's, someone might do it for you just cuase they wanna try it.
