Help uxtheme.dll is popping up as virus

I am running latest avg, it has just today popped up the usual infected file.

I trust avg, so hit remove.

Now it keeps rotating this virus message and listing it as - white listed cannot be removed.

Been on google, i read a few instances of this and talk of altertaion in order to display non win authenticated themes.

Never tried to change the theme.

I have reinstalled AVG and it comes up again and again, restarted PC and it keeps coming back. Any help woudl be greatly apprecaited.

    Cheers......Q

Will give that a go B, i read someting about the .dll needing replacing as the original has become corrupt. Does this fix that?

Not heard ot Avast before. Will sort out tonight.

You should be able to repair the genuine windows version of this file using the system file checker.

If a "Windows XP" disk came with your PC, please put it in the drive. If it offers you a menu, click "Exit". If you didn't get a disk, you may still be able to run the repair. Whether you have the disk in the drive or not:

    - Click "Start"

    - choose "Run"

    - type "sfc /scannow"

    - click "Ok"

A window will appear telling you that system files are being checked. Please wait for this to finish. If it asks for a disk at any point, you'll need to put this in the drive. If you already have a disk in the drive, then it's not the right one. If you don't have the right disk, please contact the people who supplied your computer for help in repairing it.

Once the repair is finished, you'll need to restart your PC.

    WOOPS

Did this (before i read the above) and now just get a black screen after a box telling me it now cant find the .dll

I have no means of reading the HD to even swap it out (if i coudl get the .dll).

Any options of where i do from here? Preferably not a re-install of windows if at all possible, but thinking this might be the easiest and quickets way now.

I've had this problem for about a week now. tried AVG and Avast but no joy with either.
Reading on the net I was put onto "IObit security 360" this is a free program about 7MB.
This did a 5 minute scan and picked up 32 problems the others had missed, now running OK for me.
    just download, update and scan.
