The insurance company will void the insurance because you have claimed against it and the car was a write off. You will need to get an engineers report to confirm it is roadworthy. The Vehicle Inspectorate is the best place to look for info regarding taking it off the register, but, I doubt it seeing its a register of cars involved in accidents where a claim was made, so even if the car is returned to mint condition, it was still involved in a claim and there's no disputing that fact. Worth a look anyway, but either way re insuring it will not be a problem, even with the company you claimed against, although, like I said, they will want an engineer's report.

Exactly as Hybrid states , plus vehicles can't be removed from the 'write off' register any more . They used to be able to be removed completely by taking them to a dvla approved centre for inspection.
Now all you can do is take the vehicle to the approved centre and have them 'moved' onto a secondary register . Which means that the car is as 'good' as one that hasnt been repaired , but it will still show up on the h.p.i .
Basically this test is no good to no-body as you are no better off and your car is still on the 'register' (although rather expensive).

BTW I may have not followed your post correctly but if you are claiming from the third partys insurance and not your own then your vehicle doesnt usually get classed as a write off , if you are left with the salvage and a cash payout then i would doubt that the vehicle details have been submitted to the h.p.i for classification .
Look into it m8 , you might find that the vehicle is h.p.i clear . Ask the 'paying out' insurance companys engineers department , they should have all the relevant details you need .
Drugs are only a problem to people who can't afford them.

Yeah, learn summin everyday. esp the secondary register.

I agree the only way they will classify the car as hpi/written off is by the insurance company calculating it as a total loss.

it will be registered in most cases with hpi etc.. but you should be able to repair it and put it back on the road with no problems.

Inspections are not required these days unless the lagbook (v5) is stamped spared only. And if it says that.. it normally is.. prolly about 2ft square and unrepairable.

Its worth if you have had a payout (it was your claim) on the vehicle to see if the insurer will sell you the car back.. normally at 10-15% of market value.

IF on the other hand.. your the 3rd party claimant then there is a remote possibility your vehicle has no record on it as said above.

Depends entirely how much the payout was for.. if its under £1000 generally they dont bother with the hpi paperwork. If its a car worth 000's then it sure will be hpi recorded.

I personally drive a car that was a total loss of £28k.. cost me £15k and £3k to repair it. It looks 100% identical to a none damaged car and the ONLY signs it has ever had damage is a HPI record as total loss. BUT this does not stop it being back on the road.

I must admit.. the law atm is crap.. they SHOULD insist on vehicle inspection then re classify HPI according to car repair state these days. But they dont... You can go buy a car that looks a real MESS.. lob a few panels on and drive it 2 days after ... no questions.

Criminal... i have SEEN cars that even i say "f8cking hell no way thats gonan be repaired ... drive out gleaming days later"..

    Anyway.. jus my 2 pence..

    Dunno-

Ps: i ALWAYS notify the buyer(s) of my cars that they have been damaged.. normally sell em with the hpi report.

if u have third party cover only and you are settling direct with the third party insurers via a cash settlement the vehicle is still yours as the settlement will take into account u will still have the car , the car WILL NOT be on the register only there insureds car would be if written off ,,,, if for some reason it is u will find it is a cat b write off this is a constructive total loss therefore the cost of repair outweighs the current market value , all u need to do is get a new mot for the car, i am a motor claims handler so if u need more help pm me!!!!
