Default VHS to pc with graphics card

    Hi Guys
does anyone know how to even do this, i have a tv out thing at the back of my graphics card and i have all the plugs like this

i also have loads of leads like this

now i connected them to the graphics card, and opened cyberlink power director, but it cant find any picture from the vhs recorder.

I tried video in and also tried out aswell, tried all variations, i tried SVHS leads, and component leads, even tried em all together LOL.

so guys, has anyone ever done this, and what software do you use, and how did you do it, do i use vid in or out or wot exactly do i need to get my VHS to my PC.

    any thoughts really appreciated

    cheers

i used to use this idea to get the footage from my old tape camcorder to my pc.

all i can remember is that the svideo lead was a lot better than the yellow video plug was.

now i remember the cards were called "VIVO", (video in, video out) if you search for VIVO i bet you will get what you need m8.

Oh 1 other thing, once i had plugged all mine in i had to go to the windows mixer to untick the mute tab and the line in, was a bit annoying that.

hope i have faced you in the right direction...

ooohh one other thing, i once used some pvr software to do it as well...

Is the Graphics Card not TV Out only?
I bought a USB Dongle for about £12 that lets me do what you want. Software that came with it is not the best but the Dongle works fine with other software.

I got a USB Dazzle adaptor from scan for about 20 quid with a cut down version of Pinnacle DVD studio that worked really well.

It's rare to get Video In on normal graphics cards.. Go the Dongle Route, there only about £10.. In fact if I can find mine you can have a loan of it.

it should have vivo capability, unless it's a crossfire edition. you need to use the black (s-video in/out) & yellow (composite) connector in the second picture (2nd from left). What connections do you have on your video recorder (s-video, composite, scart)...are you using TV out on the video recorder?

Fantastic, i was tasked with doing the same (converting vhs tapes to DVD) last week by the wife.

I have a pctv card in mine so was going to use that. Not sure how good the usb dongles are, however some reviews online put me off using them. I know its VHS, but i wanted to get a good a transfer as i could.

on the video i have the red blue and green ones, and the red/white for audio, and also Svhs aswell.

ive no idea what you mean about using tv out on the video as these are the only sockets at the back, i just played a tape but couldnt see it in power director

You didn't state the type/make/model or the number of connections that the video recorder had. Mine, which i've not used for years, has only got 2 scart sockets & composite/s-video/audio at the front (input only).

The red, green & blue (RGB) connectors won't work for capturing video. Is the video recorder connected to the telly via the scart? Have you connected up the svhs (svideo) lead directly to the tv? If you can get a signal then you have eliminated the possibility that the s-video on the video recorder being @ fault. In the past i used to use a scart adapter (to s-video) in order to record on to the pc, but if you need an adapter you will probably be better off getting a usb dongle.

That's what I did for the majority of old VHS that I wanted to keep. There's a few though that have macrovision on them, so the dvd recorder wouldn't work.

I used to have an ati vivo card also, hopefully it's still knocking around so I can stick it in a spare box and convert them that way.
