I'm a beta tester for them. The software runs great, but still has some minor flaws. It's updated daily and is a great solution to divx on the PS2. No swapping involved and video quality is superb.
great..good to hear some positive feedback
so you run the software on your ps2 and pc at the same time and then transmit the divx files through the ethernet adapter to the ps2 and it plays it?
no choppiness or anything? and the widescreen aspect is maintained perfectly?
Heh,
This comes back to the big question, why would someone want to play divx movies through the ps2 via a network connettion to pc when the files can just be played directly via pc + tv out card on your TV.
I mean if the Qcast proggy could be used as a stand alone player it would be nice. but its not!

I guess this is for people with PC's that truly suck.
I'd prefer a standalone program. I guess the moment they do that swap, Sony'll have a hissy fit since it'll break through their "protection" schemes.
Yeh,
Of course this will never be a standalone product coz it would mean u would have to have you ps2 chipped anyway to actually play the Movie or Media of your choice.
Jacks
because a lot of tv outs suck ass and are not perfect..and with the ps2 if i'm not mistaken ac3 movies will actually play in ac3 if you have the right cables..unlike the pc, where you have to buy a sb live just to get a digital out
Still,
I mean I do wish them luck with their product, but I do think that it wont really kick off, not until the official ps2 ethernet adap is main stream anyway.
Lets see what happens

The software that runs on the PS2, that's gotta have some kind of program to play the divx files, right? So it might be possible to reverse engineer or build a wrapper around that so it can be used without the Ethernet adapter, and to read from a divx file on CD.
Just my 2 cents. I don't know much about how this thing works, nor am I an expert on PS2 programming, so I might be completely off.
erm,
Might be poss but thing is that prog on ps2 pulls Divx codex off the pc

no cd or dvd support=useless
for me it would be great as i have network connections all over the house meaning i can now play divx on any tv i want without having to move my desktop pc (my laptop has no tv out )
i think it rocks
for me i can use a linux box, very compact, with alot of space.. under my ps2...
then u just use ssh, and has a giant movie library to play...
so i´m gonna get that software when its final!
I also think it sucks. Without cd or dvd support , it's useless. I'll just wait till begin next year when the first DVD players will come out with Divx support (texas instruments chip)
The problem with that hardware DiVX player is that they probably are only able to play DiVX 5 movies. I have alot of DivX 3.11 encoded movies (and i think many others, too). So I have to convert them to DivX5 first. UGH! Do THAT with approx. 80 movies ;-)))Originally posted by roepie33

Anyone done an iso of this ?

if it's not free it's not good

NO at the moment they support Divx3 and Divx4!!! not Divx5!!!! (divx 5 = worst codec ever!! same as xvid)
so shut up!!!
