Default new system reboots on it's own.

    Upgraded yesterday.
    P4 2.53ghz
    Asus p4s8x mobo
    512 mb pc2700 ram
    120gb WD 8mb cache.
geforce 2 ultra (from old machine)
    30.82 dets.

nothing seems to be overheating, but when i was copying old files from my old hdd it kept restarting on its own. then when I was playing battlefield 1942, it did it again. If the cpu was overheating it would beep, but it doesnt, and my hdd seems to be quite cool to touch. anyone got any ideas please?
    Thanks

Well.. replacing PSU will be a good start for troubleshooting the problem.

it could be RAM timing, but just incase he overtweaked it in the bios which I doubt he did.

Since yer running XP, it could be that you are crashing a lot (Might have the BSOD turned off in your settings).

yeah windows XP tends to restart when it crashes most of the time, it sucks cause you can't read what the error is.

I have this problem before. I had no idea what it is.
I fixed it by formatting my computer.

My 120gb hdd is partitioned as C: being 10gb and D: being 101 gig. Whenever my pc reboots i get multiple messages in my system eventviewer saying something like device1\harddisk\d not ready for access. Could it be because the d drive is too large for winxp?

If i partitioned 2 50 gigs, or whatever might it fix the problem?

    Thanx

So you are using FAT32 partitions or what?
I think the max size of NTFS partition is only 30 gigs or so...

My 40 gig HD is formatted NTFS - single partition, so 30 is definitely not the max.

    [edit]
Crackdown, try installing a ramsink/fan combo on your RAM (thermaltake makes them, I'm sure other companies do too). That might work.

I changed my memory setting in bios to 2100 (133mhz) and it was very stable. This morning I set it to manual 2700 (166) and it didnt seem to reboot at all before i went to work. There might be a bug where if i set the memory frequency to auto, it might not recognise it properley. I just hope its still stable when i get home. Many other people using the asus p4s8x mobo have had this problem, and are awaiting asus to get a fix out.
