Home made router thingy
I was thinking of making a router out of an old P233 I've got lying around and some network cards, I want to connect two PC's to it to start with and share the internet connection. The P233 will have an internal ADSL modem in it, what software and OS should I use, read somewhere about Linux being good for this sort of thing but never used it or seen it in action, some form of firewall would be nice too.Any suggestions anyone??/

try smoothwall v2 beta from www.smoothwall.org - it will do what you're after if it supports the NIC and the ADSL card.
Firewall, IDS, Proxy etc...

Go to http://www.clarkconnect.org/ they have free Linux based router/firewall/gateway/webserver - costs nothing and is soo easy to set up.
When I say easy I mean E A S Y.... make a disk - boot from the disk on your box with it connected to your net connection and the Clark Connect softwarew does the rest - downloads, configures and reboots itself! If your modem don't do DHCP then the CC box will do that too!
Thanx for the replies gut's I'll give it a go this weekend, having problems with my main machine now bloody microshaft nowt but trouble. Still I needed to clear some of the dross from my PC anyway
