someone must know guys, loads of you must play them on your xbox
Through the darkness of futures past. The magician longs to see.
One chance out between two worlds. Fire Walk With Me.
I only use them on DVDR - I can help with that but nor on the HDD.

fe_man2000- Do you mean you put media player onto every divx dvd-r you burn? I don't load the divx files onto the hdd, they are on dvd-r. What I meant was I have put media player onto the hdd, not the movies.
Sorry if this was not made clear. If you can help me it would be much appreciatted.........
I understand ,But - I dont see any point in putting the player on the HDD. The Mediaplayer is so small I burn it on every DVDR along with the 5 or 6 Divx movies. This way each DVDR is stand alone and can be played in any PC or any Chipped Xbox which is useful as my mates somtimes want copies. The only downsides are that the first 4 or 5 of these DVDR's I made are using XBplayer 5 and dont have FF or RR ability - Also that I have to put the file descriptions and the photos for each movie on the DVDR as well.
I havent even tried to get the mediaplayer on the HDD and use DVDR with the movies on - why bother ? I have a nice collection of Movies sitting in DVD cases with covers I made next to the Xbox
now.
I will happy give you advise on how to do this with Media player version 6 if you want, but playing from the HDD is not something I do.

OK thanks fe_man2000. Please could you advise me as to how to put the player onto the disc then. Also- when you are putting DivX is it possible to put folders in for different movies or do you just have one big folder?
Cheers,
Sam
Problem still not solved.......... Would be grateful of any help.
OK here is a quick guide to making a DVDR Movie disk using Mediaplayer 6.
Once you have got mediaplayer 6 on your PC and unzipped it it looks like this (BOLD = A FOLDER, lowercase = a file)
MEDIA
xbpskin.xml
xbpconfig.xml <<<< this is important.
catalogue.xml <<<< this is important.
default.xbe
Inside the media folder are 2 other folders
VIDEO
PICTURES
a load of file which you can ignore.
Movies all go in the VIDEO folder, and you can put a picture for each movie in the PICTURE folder if you want (they must be 60x90 pixels max in size) but its not needed if you cant be bothered.
Once you have done this edit the catalogue.xml. Each movie must have an entry in the catalog file so the mediaplayer can see it. Here is an example, always starts it and always ends each entry.
spiderman
Spiderman - The Movie
Kirsten Dunst.
The summer blockbuster - Spiderman.
IMPORTANT
enteries must be lowercase. - this is how the player finds the movies so the entry must be a word or part of a word that is in the title of your movie file
Example -
Blackhawk down.avi >>>>>black
Just make sure there is no other movies with black in the file name.
all are just text files so anything you want here.
tutorial got cut off !!! heres the rest
Just make sure there is no other movies with black in the file name.
all are just text files so anything you want here.
is where the picutres are - the names have to be correct - example
blackhawk.jpg would beD:\Media\Pictures\blackhawk.jpg
OK thats the hard bit. Here is a copy of a working xbpconfig.xml file as it will take too long to descirbe what each part does and you can use the same one for any DVDR only movie.
<- if you want, you can specify the directory XBPLAYER will start in ->
D:\media\video
<- remove the asterisks and modify to assign your XBOX IP address and gateway ->
<- if you don't, XBPLAYER will use EVOX settings if available, else it will use DHCP ->
192.168.1.11
192.168.1.1
<- remove the asterisk and modify to get XBPlayer to connect to your XStream server ->
192.168.1.2
<- modify file type filtering or remove completely ->
avi|bmp|dat|jpg|mp3|mpg|mpeg|wmv|xbe
<- you can specify the location of your dashboard (must be on the C: drive) ->
msxboxdash.xbe
Hope this helps - I suggest using DVDRW with a couple of small movies files to test your configs first (small files cos they burn quicker).

I cant seem to post the rest of the tutorial ? it simple doesnt appear. whats going on.
cheers mate, am gonna try this now. Only bad thing is that I have about 100 files (simpsons episodes) on the disc, so I am gonna spend a lot of time editing the catalog file!!
