Upgrade now, or wait??

Hi

Thinking of upgrading my pc soon but red somewhere that the newer Abit chips are commin and they are gonne be much faster than the current ones (xp2400, xp2600) these are gonna be out soon.

so should i get a xp2600 system or wait and get one of these newer chip that are coming out?

Or should i just but a new graphics card, hdd and memory and stick with what ive got for now?

When is it ever a good time to upgrade.

New bigger and faster stuff is coming out all the time.

I say upgrade when you need to and yours is a decent spec and will run more or less anything out at the moment.

So what do you recon, new Graphics Card and New Ram?

I get crap fps on my card, cant get any games to run smoothly @ 1024x768

I say u have enough ram although u cud consider DDR or something better. Poss a 7200rps HD or faster. A good graphics card will cost you about 200 quid, but it's well worth it. I have the MX440 and I get wicked FPS but I have 2.2GHZ p4 so that might explain it. However GeForce 4 are good cards, Ti4600 especially.

Get a GF4 4200 - there about £100 - there much faster than the GF4 MX440 which is basically a turbo GF2. (Nvidia got into trouble for calling them GF4's by the way). See what effect it has on your system and upgrade the CPU if needed later - I have the following spec system and I can run the UT2003 demo in 1280 x1024 with everything at it his max no problems.

athlon XP1800+
Asus GF4 4200 128mb
256 333 DDR

not a lot better than you 1.4 CPU.
