    Default Blair & Browns Britain

    Well im pretty pissed off

my son fell in the shower tonight at aroun 7.30ish
he cut his chin, to be safe we took him to hospital where we booked in at 8ish
we sat in waiting room with the cast of shameless for about an hour then a triage nurse shouted us through with our son to look at him.

she then told us to go wait in the kids waiting room with some toys in, we were waiting just over 3 hours when my patience had got a bit thin after going to the loo with my son only to find some scruffy c*nt taking a shit with the door unlocked.

when we got back i asked the nurse when we would be seen, she said it could be anything up to another 3-5 hours. bearing in mind they were not too busy, the waiting had filled up by then though and there were no doctors shouting patients for about an hour - god knows where they had gone.

my daughter is a nurse at the same hospital and im ashamed she has to go through this every day. they are grossly underfunded, understaffed and have no motivation - they looked fed up.

we ended up walking out as we could not be there 8 hours with a 5 yr old boy ffs. i have cleaned his cut with isoprpyl swabs and put a plaster on it till the morning when ill go to the docs.

they have really killed our hospitals and the management need sacking

That's a fucking disgrace. I wouldn't mind but our local Hospital is mainly staffed with immigrants as well. Twice I have been to the hospital over the last couple of years only to wait at least a couple of hours and then being seen by a 'supposed doctor' who has hardly been able to speak a word of English properley.

They have even been trying to close down the A&E at our local for the last couple of years which would mean at least an extra half an hours drive to obtain emergency treatment.

What's the problem with that? You said yourself the hospital is staffed; whether they were born in Belgium or Birmingham shouldn't make any difference.

Knew I would get flamed. My point being is where are all the UK born Doctors. Maybe we should make it easier for people who are native to the UK to enter the medical profession instead of turning away thousands of people a year because they fell 1 point short of getting 5 grade A A levels. My point being is that we have thousands of people who would love to become 'qualified Doctors' but the Goverment won't invest any money into extra training facilities for the wealth of talent we could produce here in the UK.
Loads of my mates wanted to become Doctors when I was studying for University but they couldn't even get a place not because of a lack of aptitude but because of a lack of places available and that was 20 years ago.
We need to invest heavily which we all know in the health system but I believe we need to start investing in our own Citizens regardless of race or religion of course.

Not to bothered who the doctors are TBH, investment is needed for sure.

I while back I thought that having a PAYG health service would be better, as I felt that all the ppl who were wasting doctor and hospital time with minor or non existant things. If they had to pay each time, they wouldn't try that shit.

I hardly ever go to doctors or, touch wood, have never needed much time in a hospital.

May insurance like in the US may be better to fund the Health Service. Would say it definitely needs taking away from the Government tho.

Bet they will be the next mob to strike...

To be fair to flik, one of my mates works as a surgeon in a Leeds Teaching hospital and does his fair share of A&E time. He is always saying how low the standard is of some "foreign" trained doctors and in some countries mainly african nations, if your family is wealthy and willing to pay you through medical school then you dont even have to pass the exams, your certification is based on attendance!!!!!..

Also the lack of english speaking doctors working in the NHS is dangerous and slowing down the system. Many patient notes being made and passed to surgeons dont generally make sense and if the recording doctor cant be found then operations and treatments are being posponed.

I personally dont mind who is treating me, as long as they know there profession and we can speak a common language, to be fair, if its my gout that is flaring up then I dont care if they can speak my language or not as long as they give me the fecking pills!!!

A high profile example of the problem can be found here..

Just theoretically speaking. If you had a Son/Daughter who had wanted to become a Doctor all their lives and had managed to get maximum grades at College but still got turned down for medical training due to lack of places available. This would not bother you ?

Not as much as you would think!

I see your point tho, I really do. Just there is not much we can do about it while the Health Service is in the control of retards.

This is bullshit. If you have the grades you will get into medicine school (Maybe not of your choosing but there will always be a spot.) How do I know? I studied and lived with medical students (from here and from the u.s) ALOT of them went and studied at medway (kent) and quite a few of them went to one in Luton.

Places are always available its just people seem to think it matters where the qualification comes from.

Go ring up 5-10 medical schools and I can assure there will be spots available.

Competition is fierce though, there is something like 15 - 20 applicants for each place. I did my PhD at St Thomas' Hospital Medical School (Now King's College, London) so I spent a lot of my time socialising (and going out ) with Medical students. Broadly speaking they fell into two camps, those that were dedicated, caring and wanted to be Medics since before they could remember... and then those who were doing it because of family pressure, prestige, money etc...

Now clearly the second group aren't going to make good doctors, and many even end up dropping out of the profession altogether. So for me its this group of people that need to be weeded out, because although they are bright and capable of the grades, they are taking the spaces of more deserving people.

However I do remember one medical school which was the exception, St Mary's in Paddington used to accept lower grades than the other medical schools because they took other things into consideration e.g sporting abilities, voluntary work, background (e.g. underpriveleged) etc..

Even if there were unlimited places, the numbers of successful applicants would not rise as too many people have proper chins.
