Newbie Question:

Can just use an ethernet cable to connect and xbox to pc?
Not a crossover cableor hub(right).

a normal ethernet cable would not work. unless you used a hub. If you want to connect directly you need a cross over cable, or a normal cable with a cross over adaptor. easiest option is a cross - over cable

A router ? not unless you configure it to pass the correct IP's in the config, which considering that you are asking where to get a cross over cable, I doubt you can do. You can buy a cross over in any PC shop or if you really desperate there is a offical MS one that can be bought in a Games shop - v expensive.

Or you could buy a router that has dhcp....not sure if the linksys will do this, my Barricade works a charm.
