rev limiters are there for reason...

don't know about 1.3 golfs, what are they @?? about 7k or so?? maybe a bit less??

You're not gonna get any much more than 108 out of a golf with only a 1.3 motor anyway..

I meant at what revs did the golf cut out.

rpm must be quite high in a 1.3 golf when doing 108mph.

And when you said it cut out, do you mean the engine just died. That's not the rev limiter doing that, when you hit the rev limiter the ecu should stop fuel going to engine momentarily but the engine wont die.

As stated above , if the rev limiter cuts in it wont cut the engine off totaly . If the engine died and needed to be restarted then you have a problem with the car .
probably no help at all m8 , but i had this problem once on a car ,and one of the fuel breathers was knackered .
Also it might be worth looking at your vectra speedo m8 , as i would say it needs calibrating.

There is no way you would have been getting 108 out of a mk2 1.3 golf cl.

I think have this problem on my Golf.

When this happened did you find when you took your foot off the accelerator and reapplied it there was some time between you putting your foot down and the engine acting on this? This gap gets worse until the engine dies? Although saying this, if you were going that fast then you weren't taking your foot off the pedal.

Someone suggested to me once that carb ice could be the problem. Although I didn't know you could get this on cars.

I drive police ones daily , they are tuned to the bollox and i have never had anything near 155 out of any of them . They are a joke in the police force , hence the switch to more european models like volvos and vw .
