    Default Red Dragon

Saw this last night, enjoyed it but not a patch on Silence of the Lambs, but far better than Hannibal. It's a remake of Manhunter and that had bags of atmosphere, I'm not sure which I prefer but I did prefer Dennis Farina over Harvey Keitel as the FBI Cheif.

Haven't seen Manhunter yet but this was really good - better than Hannibal as you say..

Ed Norton's as excellent as usual but Ralph Fienne's steals the show in this one - he's a total fruitloop...

I'll have to get Manhunter now to see how that compares....

I saw this on Friday night. Red Dragon is a VERY good movie.. Go See it! If you liked Silence of the Lambs and Hannibal then you'll love this. Personally I thought Hannibal was quite bad, it was way off the book and they tried to cram it all in to the film and it didnt work. Plus with Hannibal Thomas Harris was pressured to finish it and so the ending turnedout shyte.

But I read Red Dragon a few years ago and this new movie is spot on! They have moved stuff around a bit but the basic storyline stands up well in the series and as a standalone movie.

Haven't seen Manhunter either, but I read a review a year or so ago and it got slated.

I read somewhere that Anthony Hopkins has written his own screenplay for another movie where Clarice has some kind of breakdown and see's Hannibal everywhere she goes, street corners, shops etc. Is it real or in her mind... She awakes in her bedroom handcuffed and sees Hannibal sitting in the corner... With a wry smile he says, "Hello, Clarice". Spine chilling... wonder if it ever comes to fruition?

i saw thjis last night and i thought it was a right let down they could have made the catching hannibel part last a bit longer than the opening credits but the rest of the film was alright, but i prefer the book, thomas harris is a much better director

i'm guessing here that most of you havent seen manhunter?

as a film on its own 7/10

as a remake of manhunter (3/10) FOR GODS SAKE SEE HOW IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE DONE, you know this was only made so they could release a hannibal lecter dvd boxed set and it shows in comparison to the original.

The Box set will probably not happen as it's different production companies, but

I have seen Manhunter - and despite being an almost word for word re-make, I thought Red Dragon was much better.

Brian Cox made me laugh more than scared me, and the rest of the acting in Manhunter was poor. The constant whine on the electric guitar on the soundtrack detracts big style from the film too.

If you compare that to another great Hopkins performance and Norton is pretty good too, and they don't hold your hand through the plot, like they do in Manhunter - where they blatently get characters to think out loud so the dumbass american's know what's going on.

Not as good as Lambs but much better than Hannibal. Not Ed Norton's best performance (American History X was). Harvey Keitel as an FBI chief? lol. I just couldn't get used to it. I've seen him in one too many mob films I guess. Ralph Fiennes was very good. Now I want a Red Dragon tattoo!
