Default Which Game(s) are the *Biggest Challenge* ?

Is there any game that exists that is complex to finish. I dont use cheats. even level skip is pointless.. Why cant developers create near-impossible-to-finish type of games.

Maybe some exist thats why I started this thread. So which ones would you point out had you tearing your hair out to find the end.

Why cant game developers SKIP the 'easy, novice, expert' option and just make the game one skill. Wouldnt it be more of a challenge that way? I dont know anyone that wants to play the same game over and over after completing it.

    anyway I pick:

    Curse of Monkey Island
    Hitman 1

Because not all people have the same gaming abilities as others...

Also, I agree with Hitman 1....the lack of saves in the missions made the game incredibly hard and frustrating, but it was one of my favorite games of all time due to the joy I felt after sucessfully completing one...It was the same for Mafia; I think I liked it because some of the parts were really hard, but then the satisfaction I got from beating them was worth it all in the end.

Unfortunately, I don't think Hitman 2 will have the same sort of satisfaction, due to in-game saves, but the missions are incredibly hard to do and get a Silent Assassin rating, so I am currently playing the mission until I get that rating, or possibly one lower. However, because of this, I'm still on the first mission due to lack of time to play it and also the fact that some of the parts are really hard to get past without being seen/without killing anyone but the Don. I got a Professional rating, which is supposedly one or two ratings lower than the highest, so I may just go on to see the rest of the game, and come back later and achieve perfection.

Was I rambling? Sorry... The game just has me frustrated beyond belief.

yeah, any Commandos game is damn tough, and
if you play the hitman games properly (get Silent Assassin)
then they are very hard to complete as well

'lax fro, im just stating my opinion, im sure alot of people agree. thats the purpose of games, they should be made difficult, who cares if the player is dumb, thats the idea, open peoples views how they approach levels and advance their technique.

if every game was beatable, where is the fun?

I couldn't stand hitman 1 because I had to retry the missions over and over and over just to get them right. It's not a bad game, just not my style.

My "biggest challenge" would have to be trying to finish doom1 on nightmare playing coop with my brother. We got pretty far. episode 3 is just impossible.

There was a game long time ago - Maupiti Island and it was hardest adventure game I ever played. Some actions in the game had to be done in specific time. And when you didn't do that action, you couldn't finish the game. But the nighmare was, that the game didn't tell you 'Game over' or something like that, so you continued playing it, although there was no way for you to finish the game. I heard that some guy finally finished it some years after it was released, but I still think it was a rumor.

    Short review: http://www.emuitalia.com/stgraveyard...ti/Maupiti.htm

It's from 1990 and now it can be found on abandonware sites. I can post a download link, but I don't know if I can in case of abandonware.

I just tried hitman 1 again... took me... 15 hours to beat. And i only had to make multiple retries in... 3 levels. Then there was around 3 or 4 levels i used 2 tries. and the rest... well first time around

Mega Probotector/Contra: The Hard Corps for Sega Mega Drive was really hard, especially in the pal version, where you didn'T have any energy, but immidietly died when you were hit.

Contra 3 on SNES. Damn I tried so hard to beat that game on hard without using any cheats. I think I even got to the last level once but never made it past the flying fiends (if you've played contra you know what I'm talking about).

Anybody who can honestly say he did indeed beat contra on hard (without cheats of course) ?

Tombs & Treasures for the NES. I think I passed it eventually, but it was tough when I was 8 years old!

Very challenging: Jagged Alliance 2 (Gold Version, 1.10), hardest level, few weapons, Ironman mode (no saving)

Impossible: Jagged Alliance 2: Unfinished Business, same settings as above.
