could it be that you can use the pc bioxx to load a bios to boot PS2?
Why not or should i say how!

i tried really hard to understand what you meant ...
gave no result ...
be a little bit more clear , please ^^
i think he means get a ps2 bios and load it into the pc bioxx then play ps2 games on the xbox, or am i just way of the mark here.
if thats what you mean m8 then errrrr nope it wouldnt work one little bit

well , you just understood the same thing as i did ...
it's kindda horrible to see those kind of question on such a qualified forum , isn't it ?
all i was asking if anyone knew the answer to a simple question?
Can you play a PS2 game on xbox?
if not what is the difference ?
Consider :
1)Both consoles have the same hardware except xbox has twice the power.
2) both read a dvd
3) bios is the only thing different, right?
ps : if you have no idea which we can tell in your answer don't reply
1. Both consoles do not have the same hardware, they are very very very different, the xbox haveing pc based hardware (though not in the same configuration as a pc) and the ps2 haveing for starters the emotion engine chip for graphics which as far as I know is a custom designed chip for sony.
2. yes both read dvds, but since their software is designed for specific hardware this doesn't really matter, ever tried putting a a ps2 game in a dvd player? both read dvds but only one can run ps2 software
3. no, the bios is not the only difference, the xbox wouldn't know what to do if you put a ps2 bios code into it, it would simpply reject it as corrupt (if it's even possible to program a flash with ps2 bios)
Sorry if this sounds at all rude but I'm simply stateing the facts as I know them, the xbox will not play ps2 games with a bios change and the chances of it being able to emulate ps2 hardware in real time are non existant, it's simply not powerfull enough
isnt that wot i did m8, i said it wouldnt work one bit, or were you refering to something else.ps : if you have no idea which we can tell in your answer don't reply
just imagine it tho being able to play ps2 games on yer xbox, now that would be so cool, we can but dream tho

Shame but thinking straight it will never happen, the architecture is just too different to emulate on something the spec of an XBox.
Look at the Amiga, 7MHz computer with a few custom sound chips, blitters and Fat Agnes chips and the PC can just about handle that.
In fact that's a thought - there's no Amiga emulator for the XBox yet - now that will be a good day when UAE or Fellow gets a port

what r u on about twice the power??? i dont think so, the xbox has a 32bit CPU, whereas ps2 has a 128bit cpu which is 4 times poweruller if im rightOriginally posted by James j eide

forget speed here, were on about power, ps2 can handle more things than xbox, who cares if its 700MHz in speed that means nothing.

I love these hardware comparissions.
This is taken from another Forum and covers alot of the questions posed by the PS2 Vs Xbox crowd. I like the PS2 but why are PS2 fanboys so convinced that the Xbox which was released AFTER the PS2 would have less ability. This just doesnt happen unless there aiming at a different market (like handheld game machines etc).
OK, I'll start from top.
>Of course, the Central Processing Unit, the heart of every >computer or console. Most of the calculations take place here.
Perhaps on PS2 most of the calculations take place on the CPU, but on Xbox most of the calculations take place on the XGPU.
>Data bus, cache memory as well as all registers are 128 bits on >the PS2 CPU while the XBox CPU is 32 bits.
Yep, EE has 128-bit registers and data bus. Xbox CPU has 32-bit, 80-bit (shared registers: 80-bit for FPU and 64-bit for MMX), and 128-bit registers. It’s not only 32-bit. The Coppermine cache memory has a 256-bit wide data path.
>It has a maximum performance of 6.2GFLOPS while the XBox >CPU can only do a bit over 3 GFLOPS.
Actually, it’s a bit under 3 GFLOPS.
>It incorporates two 64-bit integer units (IU) with a 128-bit SIMD >multi-media command unit, two independent floating-point >vector calculation units (VU0, VU1), an MPEG 2 decoder circuit
>(Image Processing Unit/IPU) and high performance DMA >controllers. Yes, this is all ON THE EMOTION ENGINE ITSELF.
Yep, looks right for EE stuff. Xbox CPU also has integer SIMD (called MMX; 2x32bit or 4x16bit) and vector calculations unit (called SSE; 4x32bit). These aren’t as parallel and independent as parts of the Emotion Engine (FPU, VU0, VU1), but they do run at a higher clock speed and use 64-bit and 128-bit registers. Memory controller and video processing is on XGPU.
>It also means that the PS2 can handle a lot more sophisticated >Artificial Intelligence programming so that you have intelligent >human-like opponents.
AI requires strong integer performance, and EE isn't spectacular at integer, as it's designed mainly for parallel vector processing (floating-point). Integer performance = MIPS (or perhaps better would be SPECint). AI also demands some floating-point (not as much as integer), but not always the type that's very friendly to vector processing (a.k.a. SIMD or parallel processing). Vertex transformations = super duper friendly to vector processing. Also some physics calculations work well with vector processing.
>And with a floating-point calculation performance of >6.2GFLOPS/second, the overall calculation performance of this >new CPU matches that of a super computer.
Yes, supercomputer from many years ago. Modern supercomputers are in several teraflops (TFLOPS). This is same marketing talk that Apple likes to use for G4. I think the fastest supercomputer at the moment does 40 TFLOPS (or 40,000 GFLOPS). It'll take 6450 Emotion Engines to match that -- not what I'd call a supercomputer. Then you can consider how efficient each machine is -- true supercomputers normally get closer to peak performance than low-end machines do (i.e. less bottlenecks in supercomputers -- per chip and for entire system).
>This is a completely new CPU architecture especially designed >for sophisticated graphics and physics while the architecture of >the XBox CPU is pretty old and simple and looks a lot like the >architecture of the 486 CPU from back in the early '90s.
Xbox CPU and 486 both use 32-bit x86 code, but they are very different in execut1on. Xbox has XGPU that’s even more specially designed for sophisticated graphics, so the CPU doesn’t have to be.
Time and time again....
Specs mean sh!t, games make a console.
whats the spec about the xbox sound channels, it has twice the amount of ps2, but theyre all mono not stereo
R U crazy ? The Xbox does on board 5.1 Dolby digital in game ! - name any PS2 game that does 5.1 Dolby and the cut scenes in SSX tricky do not count! The reason so few PS2 titles do it is that CPU on a PS2 takes such a hit when it has to do software 5.1 encoding that they almost never use it - I assume you dont have an xbox to compare this mate - I have both console going though my Home cinema system and if ever there was a clear winner it is the xbox (on sound) over the PS2.
OK here are the PS2 specs
Sound:
Number of Voices: ADPCM: 48channels, with 3D surround sound
Sound of Memory: 2MB
Output Frequency: Up to 48 KHz (DAT quality)
Xbox
NVIDIA MCP Audio Processing Unit
256 simultaneous 2D voices (audio streams)
64 simultaneous 3D voices + 192 simultaneous 2D voices
Five DSP units in total (3 fixed and 2 programmable)
Voice Processor – several DSP units for rendering the 2D and 3D voices
Global Processor – programmable DSP for reverb, chorus, flanger, equalization, 3D cross-talk cancellation, and occlusion/obstruction,
Dolby Digital Interactive Content Encoder - programmable DSP for encoding into a Dolby Digital (AC-3) stream
Downloadable Sounds Version 2 (DLS2)
Remember theses are hardware specs - the PS2 can do more but it has to be done in software and hence the CPU takes a hit.
[Slip] is right the specs are just numbers - the games are the only thing that counts, But I just cant understand why anyone is willing to trash another console even in the face of the facts - Its not politics fellas - If you like your kit thats great. Some PS2 owners seem to be getting desperate to prove theres life in the old dog yet - You dont need to its a good console.
dingle_666 - I suggest you do a little reading before your next post. Whats next - the xbox only does 8 colours ?
Cheers

well , now this thread is becoming the flaming place for fanboys ...
i feel like i'm having a trip @ isonews forum m8 , so keep cool and stop being such fanboys , it's useless and annoying ...
How constructive of you. This is a tech forum- why are you getting annoyed? - no one else is.
yeah i aint seen a good vs battle for a while

yeah , a tech forum where someone asked if he could play ps2 on his xbox ... really tricky obviously ... just answer him "no , because it's not the same hardware" , and go on ...Originally posted by fe_man2000

no need to argue wether ps2 is much better or not than the xbox ...
it's so useless ...
i can't remember ou told this earlier in this thread , but i totally agree with him : " hardware doesn't make a console , games do" !
