Dumbest Jury Award Ever

This stupid jury in L.A. (of course) awarded this chick 28 billion dollars for smoking her whole life and getting lung cancer. She's 64 years old, shes' already live a majority of her life. If the average life expectency is 74 years that means she had about 10 years left to live if she didn't have cancer, so they're awarding her 2.8 billion a year for every year her life has been reduced. Of course the woman smoker has no responsibility for her own actions. Warning labels or not, Phillip Morris lying or not, people have ALWAYS known that smoking is bad for you, you're lighting something on fire and sticking it in your mouth and inhaling and exhaling smoke, duh. Whatever happened to that 350 billion dollar settlement the tobacco companies made with all the states so these lawsuits would stop? That's right the states spent the money building new freeways insted of for health care and prevention of tobacco use.
Shouldn't the US government be included in this ridiculous lawsuit? They subsidize tobacco farmers and distribute the tobacco lots so farmers can grow tobacco.

Doctors continuously told her to stop along with her close relatives. Her reply was "I'm an adult and I'll do whatever I want". She CHOSE to smoke and she knew about the consequences.

This is nothing more than another stupid lawsuit where a big corporation will pay a reduced fee [$100 Million] just to shut her up.

i dunno maybe she does have a small right to sue..
i dunno about the warning lables and stuff back in the day but what if they werent on every ciggarette box and all over tv back when she started? and the public wasnt well educated about this stuff back then, if she started smoking without knowing about the effects and got hooked on it,it is the cigarette company's fault. you know how they tried to hide it and deny the effects for so long

you say she shouldve quit but its not that easy, i know a guy at the university that hasnt been smoking for as long as her (couple of years) and hes trying to quit he keeps on shaking constantly and is uptight about everything. cant eat anything or drink cuz he'll throw up

i aint a smoker, but i odnt give a shit about the guy who is smoking and his health, but if it has indirect effect on the third party then its wrong. And it does.. mayb i should migrate to the US and file a awsuit against the smokers who ws standing with me at the bus stop.

Yeah, my stupid next door neighbor is like 50 or 60 something, smokes heavily (her house REEKS like an ashtray... i had to go in there cuz i built a pc for her) and says plainly that she will never quit and she's basically going to let herself die from it like her mother did.

What a dumb bitch... but whatever.

What a bullshit lawsuit too. If anything, people should have been suing them in the 40s thru the 60s, when they were more blatantly withholding information they knew, like the fact that nicotine levels were intentionally increased to create addicts, no Surgeon General's warning, TV ads, etc... but you can't claim ignorance these days, and blame them for your own lack of willpower.
