    The best 120g h/d??

I'm about to buy a 120g h/d but I'm not sure whats the best.
    Which is the more stable?

    1.IBM 120GXP UDMA100 123.5GB (HD-006-IB)
    2.Western Digital Caviar 120GB Special Edition (HD-001-WD)
    3.Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 120GB (HD-009-MD)

The drive wil carry mostly mp3/mpegs/avi.

    Thanks in advance

    IBM Hd's SUCK!

NO WAY IBM!! They are SO well known for breaking down that they have adopted the name DEATHstar!! I have had 3 fail within 12 months and now refuse too use them.

In my opinion the BEST 120Gb Hd is the NEW WD Caviar SE (8Mb Catch)

    Reasons Why:

    a) They ARE the fastest IDE Hd too date
    b) They are MUCH quieter then most Hd's (ESPECIALLY IBM's)
    c) They have a MUCH higher MTBF and manufactures don't suggest you only use them for a certain amount of hours a week! IBM! Lol

    Maxtor
Understeer is when you hit a wall with the front of your car
Oversteer is when you hit the wall with the back of your car
Horsepower is how fast your car hits the wall

We had a few smaller IBM drives fail on us earlier this year. Thankfully the bigger ones seem to be pretty stable as long as you keep them cool, otherwise you will witness China syndrome, and bang goes your data.

The WD with 8meg of cache is going to be faster than the others that have less cache. One of the hardware review sites did a comparison between the disc and a scsi one, it faired very well.

On the downside I had one for a few months which is now broke - its a good way to lose a lot of data.

I'm not saying its a bad disc, harddiscs fail sometimes - as it happened I don't think the disc is to blame as the second disc on the same channel decided to break as well (probably a power surge or something). Upto the failure I was happy with it. Next time I get a large disc it'll be with a new machine with a dvd writer so I can backup my important files (mp3's

I've got the Western Digital Caviar 120GB Special Edition (HD-001-WD)

Had it a few months and it's fast and reliable.

Had no problems and always get Western Digital - they are a good make of HDD's.

Ebuyer were doing the 120gb one quite cheap.

get WD, got 1 after my quantum broke (a chip made by philips on the bottom of the HDD melted after a yr and a hlf). NEVER had any probs with my WD, I got a maxtor b4, but the dam thing was as loud as a jet engine! So I took it bk and got my WD, costs more, but well worth it!
