How in the hell do I put a background on a webpage???

I made a background and I want to put it on my webpage. Does anyone know how? Or can anyone link me to a guide that explains it? I'm using LeapFTP to upload stuff to the site.
I know this is probably a dumb ass question but oh well I tried. Any helpful answers will be appreciated.
