    hi all

    i have just baught a new xbox and i no nothing at all about them
    i have read some posts but all seems abit confusing.
    my first question is

    whats the ethernet port for can i connect it to my net work

    i have read some post about a media player do i have to have chips fitted for this

    if i need a chip for backups which is the best etc

    hi, here a little overview of how this stuff works -

    The ethernet port is the port on the back of the box on the left handside (looking from the front of the box) - looks like a modem/phone socket. It is used to connect to a network card in your PC - if you have one - if not there about £10 to buy. You can use a cross over network cable (Cheap to buy) or the offical Microsoft linkup cable (very expensive) to link your Pc to the Xbox.
    This is the setup for copying data/games to and from your Xbox.

    As for the Mediaplayer - You cannot run any software or copied games or connect to your Xbox in anyway unless you have a chipped box. An unchipped box will only allow you to play original games/DVD movies.

    Which is the best chip ? tricky one - basically most of the new chips look good - I like the look of the Xodus - somtimes called the Matrix chip. There is no soldering involved at all etc. Other chips required a very good knowledge of soldering.

    i have just had my box chipped with the executer so the fun begins is there any good software i can now put on for the likes of multi region stuff and any other good stuff i do aleady have a home network setup on my computer thanks for any advice
