Black & White NTSC Display

Hi,

I've got a US cube, it works fine at home on my 100Hz TV but only shows black and white on a couple of others.

All of the TVs support 60Hz, they are fine with 60Hz dreamcast games.

I've tried using the supplied (3x phono) lead, and the £20 Nintendo RGB cable - neither show colour.

I've seen some others (there's a whole bunch here: http://www.telegames.co.uk/teleg_36.html ) but I'm not sure which ones will work, if any of them.

Any advice would be appreciated...

AFAIK The US machine does not support the RGB Scart. Unfortuantly if you have a US Cube, you need a machine capable of displaying a NTSC picture.

(That being said, isnt there a hack to get it to work??)

And yes, 60Hz support isn't enough.

The RGB Scart cables for NTSC machines will do the trick, though.

unless you can find an rgb scart for the usa n64 (about £20) again its very different to the pal one, but it works fine, thats what i use.

Also a lot of tvs can not take a 60hz composite signal that is why your 3x phono lead does not work with the other tvs, the tvs you say can take 60hz can only do so as an RGB signal.

Arnt the RGB Scart leads for USA\JAP machines little devices that actualy reconstruct the image? (Instead of simply being a wire.) Doesnt it reduce the quality of the picture? (Like a NTSC->PAL convertor.)

yes (for the n64 things)
no, for the £50 component rgb things

Eh? You will have to do a converstion from component to RGB. (Isnt component is Hue, Saturation, and Luminescence?)

And you're 100 % sure you're not just getting the Composite signal? Because I'm not! Mass production would have just started again in China of the cable, if it worked with the NTSC 'Cubes!

EDIT:

Oh right, those "RGB" cables, it's actually the S-VHS signal it makes into an RGB signal, but that doesn't equal the same quality as you'd get from one of the NTSC RGB cables.
