Default hackers crack the nEW V2 secure xbox hits the news

just saw this on a news site

Hackers claim to have cracked new "secure" Xbox
    [PC Pro] 12:01

Two competing teams of hackers claim to have cracked the new 'secure' Version 2 of the Xbox in under a week.
The teams claim that their modifications opens the door to allow the Xbox to perform a number of tricks that Microsoft and graphics chip designer Nvidia would prefer it didn't.

Team Xecuter say that their device, which they expect to be selling shortly at around $45 will enable modifiers to run alternate operating systems like Linux and play 'homebrew' code as well as imports and code from all regions.

The Xboxhacker BBS was not far behind. The site claims it has been able to 'normalise' an Xbox to run Xbox Linux code.

Although these claims have yet to be tested, it would seem to be a blow to Nvidia who are said to be responsible for the security of the machine. It also means that the hackers have probably bought themselves another six months or so before the developers can come up with a more 'secure' patch
come up with a more secure patch, WHY BOTHER, they are just wasting good money, but they gotta try as they always think they are one step ahead

Remember what happened when the modchips for PS2 came out, Neo Technologies became a massive success and Sony took them to court – suddenly modchips had to be produced outside Europe. And Raptor probably got a big lawyer bill!!!

Lets hope M$ does not close down Xecuter team before the mod hits the shelves.

I know that one of the mods X-ecuter is working on is suppose to be 100% legal but if M$ wants to make it hard for mod dealers they can!

Nice! can't wait to see Bills face when he hears it's been cracked in under a week! Wot is the point in tryin to make it "secure" and "unhackable", it'll NEVER happen (maybe with the exception of the Cube).

thats exactly my thought m8, why do they bother when they KNOW it will be hacked again and again, look at the ps2, they are on version 7 and thats hacked aswell.

as for the cube being uncrackable, then i wouldnt give up on that either, although it has been a while, i wouldnt rule it out tho it might happen one day

seriously tho, i really dont know why they bother, i mean it must cost them a penny or 2 to change the board and other things, and they know its gonna be cracked lets face it, they could be doing better things like the money.

i know people say well they gotta at least try to stop them, but its just a futile attempt to secure a non securable peice of equiptment, soo in the end all the dosh they spend on making it "more secure" has just gone to waste.

mind you i read somewhere the new dvd drives in them are supposed to be a lot better than the old ones, which is a plus

LMAO! the words 'security' and 'Micro$oft' just dont go together! All these security features just end up making them look even more stoopid every time their technology gets hacked in even shorter spaces of time. Rememebr Win XP - M$ said this was their most secure OS and it got hacked within 5 hours of release LOL

    Freaky mate,
They change the board primarly to get costs down - refining the build with cheaper costing techniques etc - the extra security is a afterthought I think - thats why its so lame.

    Cheers

oh right i thought the done it JUST to try make them more secure, so sony do the same then change the board just to keep costs down, i always though they changed them JUST to stop people chippin them, at least thats what ive always read.

Not wanting to put ideas into their heads, but why haven't they make it a sealed unit, so to get into it you totally FCUK the case up?

PPL will then sell cases so if you chip your console you can put the guts into a new case.

Heh, they probably want people to put mod their machines, why else would they make it so easy? (It gets boxes into homes!)
