PS2 wont work

hi guys,
thought this was th most apropriate place for this so here goes.
a few months ago my m8 bout a ps2. it has been working fine and he had no problems with it until the other day.
hed been away for a week or so and when hes come back and wanted 2 play on it, everything powered up ok, all lights went on, made the normal disc spinning noises(he leaves the ar2 in it) but nothing happened.
obv he tried to openthe cd draw and it wont.

so 2 summarise...his ps2 wont open up(cd draw) and it doesnt appear to be reading the discs.

does any1 know wots wrong or can anybody repair this?

If its chipped then maybe a wire came out.

If it's not chipped then take it bk 2 the shop, it'll still b under warranty if he only bought it a few months ago.

Take it to someone who installs mods, maybe its the chip.
