crap d/l speeds optimization prog

i have tried various d/l speed tests and am only getting about 20k max are there any progs for checking and optimizing the settings for adsl or as to what is slowing this down. ihave xp 1600 and 512 m 2100ddr ram. tried norton systemworks 1 button check all appears ok. getting really frustrated now. even using direct connect people only seem to be d/l from me at slow speeds i.e 5 to 10k

it's probably not your connection at fault, more likely something else along the way

also are you using extended reach adsl?

if all else fails you could give BT a bell and ask them to check your line noise, and to see if someone could come out and check your kit (prolly a charge for that tho)

Possibly this is a bad MTU setting (set to a value thats too high for ADSL in the UK). Goto http://www.dslreports.com/tweaks and try some of the tweaks, spcifically setting the MTU to 1458/1430 and the RWIN setting to 12762.

I have 256/128 adsl and I am getting a max of 212 is there anyway of improving this slightl;y.
