Ok, just got my new 256mbit Advance today, works a treat but a bit confused with the who saving saved games issue. Read a load of FAQs and still a bit confused by the whole thing. Anyone got any guides on this ?

If you have more than 1 rom written, turn on GBA and point the marker over the rom you want to get info for, then press shoulder Right in brackets you will be told what save slot the game will save to. Remeber to use the 1.21 software and above as there is a saving problem with the earlier versions of Flash2 advance software.
bub
yeah got is sussed now but thanks for your help bub !
I haven't
How does it work? I mangaged to get Metroid to save games by putting it into VisualBoy and then copying the .sav file onto the gba, but it comes up as a blank selection in the games list.. is this correct? and how do I back it up if I want to add or remove games etc?
I'm lost!

first of all do you have a F2AL or a Flash Linker by Visoly, also all eeprom games have to be patched so that they can be saved in Sram on the cart.
bub
ok I have the F2AL same as 2die4
I have managed to get the games to save by creating a .sav file with visualboy and then writing it to the cart... but im sure this is wrong?

Wizer - is your Metroid game saving at all on the cart ? I.E. if you save a game, turn off your GBA then back on again, is the saved game there? I don't think Metroid needs patching before saving as it's SRAM save but some titles need to be EEPROM patched before they can save properly.
Get hold of a util called FAT v7 and that will tell you if a rom is SRAM or EEPROM save. If you can't find it let me know and I'll email it to you.
As for the save banks on the 256mbit cart, they are split up into 4 x 64kb banks and each bank has a A or B section (32kb per section) . When using visualboy it automatically creates save games at 64kb, however most titles only need 32kb to save properly.
Provided your use 32kb saves then it will be as follows:
1). Game 1 = Save Slot A1
2). Game 2 = Save Slot A2
3). Game 3 = Save Slot B1
4). Game 4 = Save Slot B2
etc.
I don't know if any of this helps you m8 ! But owt else let me know and I'll try and help some more.
cheers dude.. i think i get it now.. I had FATv6. Just got V7.. i'll sit down and work it all out later

Mate, what position is your metroid game in ? Checkout the other post I posted about save positions.
Basically if Metroid is in the 1st position then click on "backup saver". A nex box will pop up with the save slots. So if Metroid is in position 1 (on the blue selection menu) then the slot for it will be A1 - make sure it's saved at 32kb and just ignore the other shit. Give the save file a name (remember to put .sav) at the end and there ya go.

thanx 2die4 ... so how do i write them back? For example Castlevania isnt saving. I dont entirley get it, because Golden Sun does save ??

to write the saved games back it's pretty much the same as saving.
Click on "Write Saver" the same box that popped up when you click on "backup saver" appears. Pick the appropriate slot (this depends on which position the game is on the menu). again make sure it's 32kbit then load your saved game.
Example, you've got the following on your cart:
01. Castlevania
02. Golden Sun
03. Metroid 4
So you upload your saved game for castlevania to slot A1, Golden sun to slot A2, Metroid 4 to B1, etc ....
Hope this makes sense mate !
hmm ok im trying to backup the current sav position of metroid thats on the cart. When I go into the linker software and backup the saver, I save it with the .sav ext (32k) But when I try to open metroid in visualboy the saver isnt recognised ?? wots going wrong?

Don't know about that mate. What you can do is flash metroid4 to a different position on your cart ie: position 4 or something and then upload your saved file to slot 2B and then see if it's still there and works ?
the bloke who makes littlewriter is updating it for the F2A linker thing, thats alot better for backing up savegames
