From reading another message board, I hear it's going to be around christmas. No surprise. Dell always pulls this crap.

well its 10/17 now so where's yours at?

I bought one too came to 271.. not bad considering they are selling it for 349 now and the best you can do is like 295 ish or something.. mine says its expected to ship on or before 10/24 hasn't changes since i ordered it on the 9th.. i've read somepeople who ordered there's on the 16 it says december for when it will ship.. Its not neccessarily dells fault.. the whole ship yards strike thing set them back 2 or 3 weeks.. these drives have probably (and might still be) sitting on a boat in the shipyard just waiting to be unloaded with the backlog..

circuit city already got the units, maybe you can try and price match it from a website or dell.

I'd be highly surprised if they price match this unit losing nearly 100 dollars (alot of people got it for 250 shipped) I cant imagine they'd go that low.. part of DEL's deal was since you were pre-ordering it you got it at 314.99 (now they sell it for 349.99) plus you got the 15% off.. that was part of the whole deal.. Personally i'll just sit it out and wait

does anyone know if there have been any reviews or comments about if this drive has problems burning anything? (ie xbox backups, or movies, or general compability in general).. I'm hoping it will work great but with sony being one of the top people against piracy many they toned down the quality of the drive..

Just got my DRU-500A today. So far, I have burned xbox isos to a DVD+RW (the Sony brand that came with the drive), an Imation DVD-R, and also to various CD-RWs (I've found that the 10X high speed CD-RWs work the best).

    So far, so good....

oh SWEET? so you got your DVD+RW working perfectly in the xbox burned by the 500a ? Have you tried any DVD-r or DVD+R ... It runs good speed not slow or anything else??

did you buy you drive locally or did you get it from dell? Any complaints or problems as of yet? I heard that the drive might not be compatable with current programs right now...

    Jinx,

I have burned DVD+RW, DVD-E, and CD-RW. (I haven't tried any other formats yet, but I expect that they all would burn fine.)

    I bought the drive locally.

The speed is awesome. No complaints so far. RecordNow Max doesn't work with this drive yet, but the update to support this drive is supposed to be out next week. I have burned isos with RecordNow (comes bundled with the drive)using Daemon tools & Nero.

Very cool, I've noticed it only has one light on the front, what colors does it change to when burning or reading different media's?

It's solid orange when reading / flashes orange when burning. I think that's it, but I really haven't been watching it all that much.

leave it to sony to be cheap! at least my current cdrw has a green and orange light.. i think the pioneer had red and blue and maybe even green too? weak!

anyone know if this drive burns ps2 backups okay? I heard something about this drive (being sony) might have some copy protection crap built in becusae they've done it in the past with their CDRW drives ?
