Default cd-rw not working or showing up

Hey can ya'll help me? My problem is that, my cd-rw doesnt show up in MY COMPUTER folder, neither in the system properties (device manager), all of a sudden, it disappeared. I tried searching for new hardware, but it wouldnt detect it. The only thing I can think off that maybe messed it up is, that i installed the new version of Virtual Daemon. I did not disconnect any wires or anything, all i did was install Daemon Tool's. I tried rebooting and it didnt work. Any fixes there might be out there? I need help please.
    Windows Xp Home
    1.8 ghz
    256 mb ram
    60 gb HD
Sony CD-rw (forgot model cause it doesnt show up in system properties (device manager))

****I SEE ANOTHER THREAD THAT IS SIMILAR TO MINES, BUT MINES CANT EVEN RECOGNIZE THE CD-RW (ACTUAL HARDWARE NOT A CD) AND IT WONT EVEN OPEN UP THE TRAY****

If the tray won't open then there is a power issue..

open the side of the towner and make sure the molex plug is seated comletly into the male hole of the cdrom.

the weird thing is that it doesnt show up in device manager... its very weird, somehow virtual daemon disabled it or overwrote some files of it.

    Try some of this:

    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;q320553&

    or some of this:

    http://members.aol.com/axcel216/xp2.htm#GBYC

    (bottom of page)

But if it doesnt open it sure sounds like power or even hardware failure.

or maybe this is the problem:

    http://www.virtualcd-online.com/vcd/...modus=and&lg=0

"After installing Virtual CD I cannot access my local or network CD drive

If the drive that has "DISAPPEARed" uses a DOS driver, then does not report its drive letter to Virtual CD during installation. Change the drive letters of the virtual CD drives manually via the Windows system settings. After a reboot the lost drives should reappear."

check to see if you can read it in the bIOS, if not, uninstall what you installed last... also win xp has a thing called system restore.... USE IT!!

go to start, accesories, system restore, click on the event before you installed the thing, and hit go back... it should work then..
