    IE6 Problem > Can't Open Links

    Hi,

Yesterday I had a problem with my PC, where it just went to one page, no matter what I typed in the URL box.
Anyway, tried everything to sort it (except for formatting), and eventually found that a proxy find it's way to my settings by itself (no idea how). Anyway, sorted that problem, but since then, I am not able to open links within IE, which open new pages - normal links are fine.

Being a forum whore, I need to have ease surfing... this is not funny.... I have to copy and paste links into a new window. Also means that javascript windows will not open.

Anyone know how to fix it? I'm pretty sure it's in the settings somewhere, and that I must have reset them whilst trying to sort the first problem.... just not sure what.

    Thanks.

System Restore is the first thing I'd suggest. If IE6 gets messed up, on my system I usually had it.

And if you went to Tools-Interet options and restored everything, and it didn't work?

But there are 3 things to try.
Try #1 first if that doesn't work, then try #2...

    1. Start - Run, type sfc /scannow, and then click OK, you might have to insert the Windows XP CD (I do)

    2. Again to the Run prompt, copy and paste this in there and click OK rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132 c:\windows\inf\ie.inf

    3. Just incase, back up your favorites first.
Start run, type regedit, and then click OK.
    Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components\{89820200-ECBD-11cf-8B85-00AA005B4383}
Change the "IsInstalled" value data from 1 to 0, and then click OK. Close regedit, and then you need to reboot, download and install IE6

    All the best

    Sorted.... re registered the dll's....
Same problem as you I believ, although I didn't update my IE, so that didn't cause it.

    Thanks!
