Yeah always had a thing against Intel.. Probably completely unfounded, and not based at all on anything scientific... Think it stemmed from me being a broke ass student, and using AMD K6-2 chips cos the Intel ones were too expensive.. God damn them...

Oh yeah, they got a floppy drive already, and the motherboard has a onboard sound chip thing, so no need for a fancy one

U sure about the Deathstar (deskstar) there's been a few people with complaints about them on df. Looking around it's the cheapest but I'd spend a few qiud more on something a bit more reliable like a Western Dig Caviar myself.

Yeah I dunno what all the fuss is about TBH..
I've used deskstar's for over 1 year now (almost 24/7) with no worries, so I guess it could have been a bad batch..

I haven't ever used a Caviar, so was reluctant to select one.. I know wizer had some HDD troubles, but that was a maxtor I think...

Deskstars are OLD tech. and are VERY noisy and UN-reliable! Newer models are meant too be better, but I would still not trust them.

WD Caviar SE 8mb Catch is only a little more expensive and MILES faster and quiter. Remember the PC's HD is the slowest componet so a nice fast hard drive is a serious system boost!

Also TFT's are SHIT unless you get a really decent one but they cost £1K +, For 200 you could get a quality 19Inch 0.25 pitch Hansol CRT monitor which would give you a FAR better picture!

OK I've swopped out the IBM HDD for a Caviar 80 Gig HDD.
Had to get a TFT cos they have absolutely squat space.
I would prefer to get them a 17 inch (viewable) better quality, but space really is a premium.. There old 13Inch takes up ALL the desk, so a TFT was the only way to go, and the Dabs value one was the cheapest.

Thanks for the advice on the HDD

Don't know the spec on the TFT your looking @ but good old SVP have an EXCELLENT 15 Inch TFT for only £280inc VAT. Might be worth checking out a few reviews of each TFT and see which is best?!?

SVP Link for TFT = http://www.blankdiscshop.co.uk/acata..._last__15.html
