Default Xbox will only read 'Apple' disks

My Xbox has a 'Thompson' DVD drive and whilst it plays CD-RWs fine, it won't play any type of DVD-R.

A couple of DVD-RWs work, but not consistantly. The only type of media which works is 'Apple'

Are there any other types of media which have similar characteristics to the Apple type?

If not, what else can I do (other than replacing the DVD drive or 'tweaking' it)

All of the disk that I have tried, work on many other Xboxs.. They are on the following types of media:

    Traxdata
    Princo (Gen 3.2)
    Discplannet
    Infinity
    Datasafe RW
    Princo RW
    Silver Unbranded (Vivistar?)
    FWS

I agree that most of them are s**t.. But I don't agree that 'Traxdata' (or any Ritek media) are crap.

Traxdata work perfectly for everything else, except this one Xbox.

Oh yes.. Neo.. Thats another disk I have tried with the same effect.

I have another Xbox with me with a build date 3 days later than the other and that seems load everything... Looks like I might just have a 'bad' drive. Typical!!

yeah sounds like a real picky drive m8, actually it sounds like the most picky drive i have ever heard of, i know they can all be choosey about the brand of media the like, but we all find some that it likes in the end, like mine loves purple bulqpaqs.

why dont you try those allformats m8, and the purple bulqpaqs

Its mad isnt' it.. It won't play anything.. But it plays CD-RWs better than any I have seen.

Even the Apple disk, boots quite slowly... I think that its a bit of a lemon.. Fortunatly, its not mine!!

Thanks for the advice.. I think I will try some TDKs and see what they are like.
