X-Box HELP!!!!

I've just bought an X-Box and had it chipped, it also has new software which will let it play mp3's vcd's ect.

Does anybody know if this will allow me to play .avi files on the xbox??

If so, do I need any extra bits or will it just play straight of a cd??
