Where did you get these stats? I've seen a couple of sites say that this week is first week that xbox actually overtook gamecube, by about 3000 units or something?

I heard news on xbox-scene that head of MS Japan are pulling out of Japan now due to bad sales.

TOKYO, Nov 8 (Reuters) - Microsoft Corp said on Friday the head of its Xbox video-game business in Japan would step down and move to the U.S. headquarters, adding uncertainty over the fate of its already weak Japanese game operations.
By the end of September, Microsoft had sold just 278,860 Xbox consoles since its Japanese launch on February 22.

Meanwhile, 1.59 million GameCubes have been sold since they debuted on September 14, 2001, according to Enterbrain Inc, publisher of a popular Japanese game magazine.

Market leader Sony has sold 10.25 million PlayStation 2 consoles in Japan since it debuted in 2000.

Here's the article about UK sales

Xbox pulling ahead of GameCube in UK
    >> Xbox was already selling more then Gamecube in USA , but now with the introduction of the Sega pack in Eruope it looks like Xbox is also ahead of the Gamecube in Europe.
Let's hope it can maintain this position for some time ...

    From gamesindustry.biz
    [QUOTE]
While sales of the PS2 continues to thrash everything out of sight, the battle for second place is where the real action is, with Microsoft forging ahead of Nintendo in the latest figures released.
Largely thanks to the Sega value bundle, Xbox sales for the week ending November 3rd soared by some 42 per cent to 10,371, according to ChartTrack figures.
GameCube sales rose by a mere 15 per cent, to 6,657, a platform that hasn’t been helped lately by a dearth of ‘must have’ exclusive titles.
UK installed base figures for the two consoles also makes for interesting reading: Xbox has overtaken GameCube in the past week, with a ChartTrack figure of 233,503 for Xbox versus 230,876.
Meanwhile, with the PS2 set to top the three million mark any day now, we suspect that a certain driving game set in mid ‘80s Miami out tomorrow might help…
    [QUOTE]

Japan on the other side is still a total failure ... Xbox sales are far below Playstation2 & Gamecube , even the PsOne (playstation) has higher sales.

    they have more sense

if the cube ever gets a chip and backups it will cream the xbox into the dirt, many people want a cube, but buy an xbox because it can be chipped, its realy that simple, so if the hype put out by m$ is to be believed then even with its easy to chip and plentiful backups the xbox is only just pulling level, when it should be miles ahead,as i say once a chip is out for the cube just watch the xbox sales stop.

These are worldwide stats, if you look at the localised stats it's a different story. In Europe the XBOX is outselling the Gamecube.

Here the figures from the US

Figures collated by respected data reporting firm DFC Intelligence show that the Cube has an installed base of 2.7 million consoles in the US; that's 500,000 units more than the Xbox has managed in the same territory. For a touch of perspective, the PS2 has an installed base of 11.2 million. That's a whole lot of console.
    And then the UK

For the week ending November 3rd, sales of Xbox rose by 42 per cent to 10,371, largely due to its Sega value offer. In comparison, GameCube sales for the period increased by 15 per cent, to 6,657.

ChartTrack's UK installed base figures show that Xbox has overtaken GameCube in the past week in with a figure of 233,503 for Xbox compared to GameCube’s figure of 230,876.
This is proof that Nintendo's "Trickle Feed" approach to UK Gamers is serioussly hurting it's market performance.

heheheh, I'm glad I kept all my old links from my time in Dixons HQ Console Dept, knew they would come in handy someday

the xbrick may win the xmas battle (in the UK anyway) but the war has only just begun

I predict great things for Ninty next yr

on another note, the xbox is being crushed in Japan (as it is around the world apart from the UK)

check out the latest charts and you'll see xbox is now being outsold by PSOne in Japan, muhahahahaha
