Five people have been arrested for allegedly planning to kidnap Victoria Beckham.

They were held for conspiring to kidnap the former Spice Girl, the wife of England captain David Beckham, and for theft, Scotland Yard said.

One of those arrested was a woman.

The group, reported to be Albanians and Romanians, were detained following two separate police raids in London on Saturday.

The gang is reported to have been infiltrated by two undercover News of the World reporters.

The raids were in London Docklands and in Surrey.A Scotland Yard spokeswoman said: "Four men and one woman have been arrested by officers from the Metropolitan Police Service Serious and Organised Crime Command for offences of theft and conspiracy to kidnap, following information passed to the police by the News of the World.

"They are currently being held in custody."

Victoria watched her husband play for Manchester United against Southamption on Saturday afternoon.

Sky Sports reported that Mrs Beckham, 28, knew of the plot - and of the police operation - but did not tell her husband until after the game.

Police uncovered last year plans to kidnap the couple's first son Brooklyn.
