    Help XP Defender (is this a virus & how do i get rid of it )

    for the past few days i keep getting a pop up saying i have security breaches on my pc , it's a pop up from sometthing called XP DEFENDER but i dont recognise this programm as one i have installed so i dont click on the scan or anything , it keeps poping up every 5 minutes and is really annoying , im sure i have heard this as being some sort of virus so , if it is can anyone help me to get rid of it please ?

    i have windows xp home installed and havent had much bother since i put avast antivirus on it , well thats until now , it seems to run quite sluggish sometimes aswell

    any help would be really appreciated

    Sorry but it is, had this on a PC at work.

    The main culprint was the file %APPDATA%\ave.exe we deleted this but then had a few other problems as it had associated itself with a few registry enteries. But if you google ave.eve removal you should get some helpful sites (can't find the one we used at the moment)

    combo fixed removed this on one i was working on

    Ran Malwarebytes and anti virus after that too be sure

    i have seen this on my in-laws laptop how bloody clever is it by the way!

    what TotallyRandom said got rid of it for me
