    Default Help A Noob : dvd-r/dvd+r

    hi folks.

ive been looking into buying a dvd writer, and would just like to know a few things.

first of all, i am not able to download my own games, as broadband isnt available in my area at present. i have to buy my games off a lad, but he copies them onto crap media, and my xbox doesnt like it. so the main reason, im after a writer is to re-burn the games i get off him onto decent media at decent speeds.

he has a pioneer ao4 ..... and burns onto dvd-r media. the writer i have been looking at is dvd+rw+r ..... so im confused.
if i was to buy this writer, would i be able to backup my copies i get off him with it ? is there anyway at all of doing it ? or MUST i buy a dvd-rw-r writer aswell ?

thanks for any help. greatly appreciated.

    regards .... X

dont think you will be able to copy games written on -cd,s m8 with a + writer, i think you will have to get a pioneer m8, couldnt you just ask him to put them of different discs and you would pay an extra quid for them, would be a lot cheaper.

but if you get the new sony writer it does both formats - and + so this would work no probs

ohhh ...so can a pioneer writer copy games to +r's ?

if so, thats what ill do. either that or ill buy the discs and give them to him.

if that doesnt work out could a last resort be to ask him, to just copy all the winrar files onto a dvd as a data cd (without extracting them), then when i get home, extract the files myself ?

i have a pioneer dvd player ..... will that read the dvd-r disc with all the rars on ?

sorry for being a pain, but ive made a mess by getting a +rw .... and ive lost the reciept, so im fooked.

    thanks ....regards X

sorry m8 i think you have missunderstood me, or me you

you cant write +cdr/rw with a pioneer writer

that winrar idea sounds good tho that would work great, i was gonna suggest what you said and buy the discs yourself and give them to him but i thought you would think it was a daft idea.

oh and yes m8 the pioneer dvd player should work and read the disc.

just had an idea m8 , there is another way you could do it.

why dont you just use evolution-x, then get the copies off him and extract all the files to your pc with evolution-x, then you can just use your dvd writer and burn the disc again m8.

this would work sound for you
